    My wife is a teacher and she absolutely hates having SNAs in her class, (she had 3 of them at one stage). She says that they cause constant disruption looking for special attention for THEIR child.

    Here's a maaaad idea. Round up everyone in the public sector who took more than nine sick days last year, sack them, and re-direct the savings into SNS resources.

    Not selfish, just frustrated at not being able to get on with her job. Some of the kids who are in mainstream classes derive no benefit from it because they need specialist one-to-one teaching. In many cases it's just window-dressing putting these kids in mainstream classes.

    Add to that the hundreds of prisoners in the country's jails who are getting educated courtesy of the state. My sister teaches in one of the prisons and teaches junior and leaving cert and also co-ordinates open university courses.
