Series 1 - sticks firmly to the book

Series 2 Not so much. Quite a few differences actually
Battle of Blackwater Bay. Where was Tyrion's chain to pen all Stannis' ships in?

Why are Renly and Loras so obviously gay?
Why does Margery want to have a threesome with her BROTHER and Renly to consummate the marriage.
Why dont we see the Bolton Bastard as Winterfell?

    Lots of things bugging me

I'd imagine that someone who has read all and seen all like many on this thread will be able to answer better but:
    a. There were a few discrepancies here, in the books the Lannisters engaged Stannis with their fleet, not just the lone wildfire ship as on TV. Tyrion didnt get attacked on a 'bridge of ships' either. In the end though they effectively tell the same story.

    b. I'm halfway through book 3 and so far there is nothing to suggest Loras and Renly were 'obviously gay', but I think the big hint was the fact that Renly's marriage to Margery wasn't consummated. They seemed to have time! I'm expecting a direct reference/confirmation at some point in coming books.

    c. I guess the TV producers felt they wanted to play more on the gay Renly idea and this is the way they went with it.

    d. In the TV series it hasn't shown yet who burned Winterfell. I saw the TV show first and I assumed it was Robb's men blowing their horn at Theon, but after reading the book I realise that was never confirmed. I'd imagine it will come up in series 3.

Took me ages to get through the first two books knowing what happens but now I'm starting to pick up the pace. Keeping a low profile in January will never be easier!

The TV writers had to embellish the Loras/Renly story because they hadn't got the time just to drop hints here and there like in a book. ASoS
I think Loras' explanation of why he joined the Kingsguard to Tyrion is an indicator that he has recently lost his one love...Tyrion ask's him 'what of love?' and he replies 'When the sun has set, no candle can replace it'.
There are hints in the show as to who burned Winterfell...there is only one force moving to engage the Ironborn.

A lot of the differences are due to time constraints and the story being told in a completely different medium, some things have to be as subtle as a brick because people watching it don't have the luxury of re-reading something until they understand it or flicking back to an event etc. when it's explained later. Most will probably only see episodes once and if things aren't clear they will be lost and possibly stop watching.

Im up to date with the series now. Must say top notch. waiting a week for an episode is the biggest killer. "edge of your seat kind of stuff"

Still havnt got the books yeat, Think they are a must get. Even though im not much of a reader.
