a good read, the 24 hour check in makes perfect sense now. They should really look at something like you need to check in unless you have the disk in your console. That way if your internet does go your not completely locked out of it.

If they were going to come up with a compromise then I felt a fair one would be to not require a validation check unless you had altered your activated games list via a trade-in. Doing so wouldn't compromise their DRM-system but would also ensure that the chances of anyone being locked out of their console would be greatly reduced.

This would really sort out a big issue. Simple solution.

The drawback to this is not being able to game offline. Microsoft has said that the final decisions to this issue have not been final. I believe if they allow you to play offline with the disc in the disc tray, this would become a non-issue.

The 24 hour check-in always made sense. People understood that it was a way of verifying the license. That's not what people have the issue with. It's why you have to do it all is what most people have the problem with it. There's zero benefit to the consumer, and it adds restrictions. That's the fundamental problem with Microsoft's policies. They've yet to explain why all these restrictions and potential restrictions are a benefit to the consumer. That's the issue. It's not that people don't understand the policies.

im sorry but that does not clear up the privacy matter. if i can turn "off" all the kinect features then how come people cant unplug the thing?

also this low data connection to check-in what happens when theres a large patch to the UI (which there will be) thats in excess of 200mb are those hwho cant dl that amount through a mobile connection will the check in system prevent them playing peoples games until they can find a way to download a patch

I agree if all this once a day is for making sure the game is authentic and you can get around that be having the disc in it would be problem solved. The main problem Xbox ONE has now is that loads of stuff has been said and the PS4 is looking better because of it. They have to go on the offensive and clear up everything as much as they can for as long as they can until the systems come out. Because if they don't they won't burn but will do very badly.

Your sounding very 1984ish They are putting in the Kenetic because they want people to have it and use it and it to be sleeker. So you can take it off what harm will that do.

Well in fairness, with the whole PRISM scandal at the moment, everyone is quite rightly sounding a little 1984ish. It's just giving creedence to that idea that it won't be a big massive Big Brother dictatorship taking over, but people gradually signing away all their privacy rights in the interest of convenience. The internet changed the whole picture that way.

by all means include it. if the can make good games that use it Great. but give me the option of putting it with every other peripheral that doesnt get used.

i do not want the thing plugged in at all times the same way i dont want my arcade stick plugged in all the time

I find it weird that they want to enforce a secondary peripheral. we'll ultimately find out anyway when the data is monitored off it

But why would they need the Kenetic to do it just longing on to the internet could make them check things. Who knows they could be checking your own PC now with your internet better plug it out. You know that the PRISM thing has been going on since 9/11 with the Patriot ACT also do you know that every call you make by your mobile has to be stored by law for a few years I think its 6. Also there might be a forum on this site you might like I will let you find it.

You do know its inbuild so you have no extra wires or bar or whatever to set up its all in 1 box its not like its standing out like a sore thumb. I will make it sleeker If they make great game then brilliant I will not have to shell out (if I buy it rather then the PS4 still 50/50)money for a new piece of kit. Was one of the reason why I was not getting it now

Are you talking about Kinect ?,

"""But why would they need the Kenetic to do it just longing on to the internet could make them check things."""

are you serious ?, and are you drunk too ? :P

seriously though, kinect camera and mic.... a camera that is so advanced that it can track your heartbeat and facial expressions(and store all this data on you on some database). A mic that is always listening(even when you turn it "OFF").
Iv read how MS can implement a feature (if they choose to) where they can use the camera for stuff like, see how many people are watching that movie youv just rented, and turn said movie off with a prompt to pay more(depending on how many people are watching)...

The whole deal where their making it mandatory to have the kinect always connected to the console..... it makes no sense to force something like that even when your not using the device... NSA and MS have been in bed together for years...

Ya my spelling is bad oh well. What you going to do. I was just replying to the post but been serious if the governments or NWO or whatever wanted to monitor you they would be better ways then a console. If you wanted you can see many ways for "them" to keep an eye on you. phones, internet the camera in your computer hell who knows if the latest TV or such do not have bugs in them.

But lets get down to the serious issue in the world decide what console to buy and witch will have the better games because commercialism is the greatest way to brainwash you.:D:D:D:D

feel pretty silly now was wondering why it people calling it the xbone big face palm for me. Ya it will all be one all in the box which in fairness will be better then the system there now as I know people who were having awful trouble with it

This has been debunked. You can disable the 'Xbox On' feature if you want.

    Really ?, source please ?

I heard straight from one of the MS interviews over e3, and have also read about this, but have not heard of it being "debunked", or changed.

Being able to turn that thing off completely sounds alot better then mandatory.
But i heard that from an official source, i would like to see where they decided to change that, you gotta source ?

I googled it myself.. and it can only be OFF when you literally unplug the whole console from the wall,
It cant be turned off while your using the console. But you can set privacy settings....

nvm, that article if afew weeks old, but if you have a link with new info, can you post it ?

It has been posted multiple times. It's even on this page (for me at least. Maybe not if you use the default posts per page).
    http://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/1g8t5e/lets_clear_up_the_issues_used_games_kinect/

And that one links to here. http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/privacy

Though the reddit bit is just a copy and paste of what is on the xbox link. Here is the pertinent bit.
You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

If that turns out to be true, i might allow one in my home at some point :D
I would much rather the simple option of turning it off completely though, or better yet being >allowed< to unplug the camera altogether.

Between now and when the xb1 releases, who knows, ms could back track on alot of the stuff theyv been saying, nothing is set in stone yet.

i think the issue is transparency, what data is collected?....where is it sent and stored?....who has access to that data?

How long before a story pops up that a terrorist is caught via his xbox one....or more plausible, say some druken eejits are talking a load of crap about making a bomb or going on a rampage.....and the FBI busts down the door.

It seems far fetched but you can *bet* stories like that will pop up, or even say sex tapes....some eejits up a video of them having sex, under the guise of a "mistake" or the Kinect recorded them etc.

Course it'll be preplanned bs, but you can bet stuff like that will happen. Its a minefield....the Kinect can be widely abused a self publicity whores.

It hasn't been debunked....it's been backtracked. And until we see the console for ourselves on release, everything we are being told is PR spin. The simple absence of a power button mentioned before would dictate "xbox on" can't ever be turned off.

And you will forgive me for not taking the word of a corporation as gospel when they claim they would never sell any information they gather through it. That has been said before by other companies and it wasn't true then. The fact that the information exists somewhere is bad enough, the Sony hacks and recent NSA leaks should give anybody pause about them collecting data about you through a mic and camera.

Exactly we dont know what its gonna do or what kind of data it will collect and send till its been fully taken apart and tested

Add to which the story of DRM....you're watching a movie bought from the marketplace, you have friends round to watch Man Of Steel.....video stops, a big warning logo says you have eight people in the room watching the film....you need to pay an additional fee for those persons.

so the xbone works on a voice command to be switched on? so i can go into a shop that has the xbone on display and shout xbox on or when someone is playing i can go xbox off? seems like a perfect troll for me great way to piss off friends :D

Yeah!...what if you're GF wants to go out shopping and is bugging you, you're in the middle a zombie killing spree and aiming for a high score, she scowls....rolls her eyes....and says:

    Xbox off...........

It can just too easily be used in conversation. "I'll just turn the xbox off in a few minutes... Oh, I just did it." Luckily, this will be avoided as you can have kinect off, so that is only going to happen to people who leave kinect on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,857 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

I never use the power button on my Xbox 360, I always turn it on by pushing the guide button on the controller. So I'm guessing this will be how you can turn on the Xbox One too. Maybe they just didn't want to release any info right now on the power button but they have one planned, who knows?

Also, I'm pretty sure the kinect will be set up so that it only recognizes your voice for your profile.
