Even the most hyped Mayo fan can't get worked up over our last two victories. Mayo are a solid team though and should make another AI semi at least

Mayo were very good today but god almighty, Roscommon were just terrible! With all the possession they had in the first 10/15 minutes, they still found themselves behind after that. I was worried for them after they missed that really easy free in that early spell.

I asked on this forum last week what people thought of Feeney as a forward. Have to say I was seriously impressed with him today. He had a big role in the win. Although, the fact that nobody was marking him probably made it easier for him! Seamus O'Se at midfield was another that impressed me a lot.

Yip championship pretty much starts at the quarters,Richie Feeney was excellent today although Seamus O Shea stood head and shoulders above all others.

Excuse me for having confidence but that's the type of person I am.

No, you are expressing over confidence, not confidence! A thin line between the 2 but being over confident is when a team is at its most vulnerable!

Where will the connacht final be?

Where will the connacht final be?

It will be in either McHale Park or Salthill. The winners of the Leitrim v London game have the choice as far as I know. Hyde Pk cannot host games at the moment and I don't think Markievicz has the capacity.

If London win, should it not be Mayo's choice given that Ruislip hosted the last meeting between the two?

You are probably right. Looking at the draw it look like Mayo are on the home side for the final. I spoke with a couple of folks after the Galway game and after the game today and they seemed to think the winner of the other game would nominate.

Yeah, thats what I thought. If Leitrim win, kinda puts them in a weird position as you would imagine they will pick Pearse, but that is the furthest ground away from them in Connacht!

To be honest, I am only trying to second guess.

It seems unlikely Mayo and London would have a home and away arrangement, but this is pretty much unchartered waters so can never be sure.

It's a pretty desperate situation Leitrim are going to find themselves in should they prevail against London.

In truth, the only practical option available to them is to concede home advantage to Mayo, anything else would be really tough on their supporters who will come out in great numbers.

What else was expected its the same as the rugby world cup a load of ****e until the quarter finals come. The qualifiers throws up 1 or 2 decent games but the GAA Champ is a non event anymore until the qF's

There were plenty of one sided games down through the years throughout the country, the difference in the last 10-15 years is that many of these games are now televised so rather than reading the result in Monday's papers, people see the hammerings live

Freeaman and feeney had a great game today! All the team done well but they were the standouts for me... Still a bit disappointed with the lack of taking the ball from the air, or from breaking ball, by the midfield area!

Good that mayo is been talked up a bit!

It would be lunacy to have the final anywhere other than Castlebar. Mayo v Leitrim or London in Salthill would be stupidity in both financial and practical terms. I would expect the winners of the other game to come under huge pressure to accept Castlebar as the final venue.

Not much to say about today's game from a Mayo perspective. About as expected, did what needed to be done. Was a bit disappointed they seemed to lose interest with 20 minutes to go, there was another 20 point victory over Roscommon there for them if they wanted it. I suppose there was no need though.

I like that it is the fringe players like Freeman and Feeney that impressed most. The competition for places is great and forces the whole panel to improve continuously.

How is it over confidence ?

This is exactly what I was saying about yesterday, my confidence in Mayo is been take as over confidence or hype for some odd reason.

What should I be saying next, that the Connaught Final will be a possible banana skin for Mayo, or that they will hammer the opposition out the gate ?

My opinion is that it will be the latter, sorry if that is being to over confident for you.

I was confident that they would hammer Roscommon, and hammer them they did, the margin was lower than I expected but they had plenty of chances late in the game that they did not take very well.

And I am still confident that come September this team will be in an All Ireland final.

    Great game from Mayo today

Fair enough they did not get a goal but on the flip side there was very little over elaboration in the forwards, they shot early a lot and scored good points from distance, and a lot of differenet guys scored.

Looking forward to more of the same for the Final.

The scoreboard looked great today but there was a lot of messing on the pitch, not helped at all by the referee blowing that whistle every five minutes! Freeman, S O'Shea and all Feeney all stood out today. While I was delighted to see us bulldoze through Galway and Roscommon, it doesn't say a lot for Connaught Football at the minute!

Good win, solid performance. Hard for them to get themselves up and ready for a game where they were so hot favorites.
    Rossies were poor again.
Delighted for Seamie, has a stormer today and was very impressive. Freeman, Feeney and Boyle, Higgins has great games.
Hope Clarke is ok, dont want to lose him.

Anyone know what's wrong with Clarke?

As much as he is a good keeper and presence to the team. It wouldn't be the end of the world as O'Malley is more than capable deputy if Clarke is ever missing. Fielder a worldie and has a good kick out

    ha?

Clarke would be a much better shot stopper and presence and also have a better range of kicking. O'malley is a good keeper, but Clarke would be a loss.

In fairness clarkes kickouts werent great at all compared to o malleys! Would have liked a few goals just to build up the goal scoring confidence but cant complain as mayo done more than they needed to do today.

Anyone know when/if the game will likely be up on the RTE player or does it take 24hrs normally for the live game to show up in the listings? Wouldn't mind watching the 'analysis' and the first half again

Brutal game today, mayo would be better playing A training match, Let's not get to big headed Connacht football is bad, I hope the lack of proper games don't count against mayo

I live down the road in mayo, brutal game, nothing learned, so lets move on, no point judging mayo on this games, Ross are v v v poor

Ya that's true years ago there was no back door and u would only maybe get 1 live match on tv per weekend and they would be competitive games most of the time, with all the coverage today there's a mismatch or two shown every weekend . Another thing is the top 5 or 6 teams are just so far ahead of the rest in quality that there's nothing half competitive apart from a couple of games in Ulster

Why is Hyde Park unavailable for the final?

That's not an excuse for losing down the road! If your good enough you are good enough!

The problem with the 2 games Mayo have played thus far being so uncompetitive is that they won't have learned anything from them, its conceivable that they'll be in an All Ireland Q final without a proper challenge. Ideally you want to have your team challenged in the province and build from there.
None of the above is any fault of Mayo's, they were streets ahead of their opponents in their two championship games to date.
