upc remote won't work ,what can I do?!!!!

I have a problem with me UPC remote it use to work fine but now it doesn't! The problem is that I can't turn on any programes on me telly coz when ever I press any botton on me remote[I have the long black remote] the big UPC botton on top flashes red not very bright and then flashes another 2 times brightly I even tried pressing all the bottons even the TV one but the same thing keeps happening to the big UPS botton .Have u ever experieced this problem if so please help me and tell me how u fixed it , I'm desperate I need to watch some telly!
