    With ten.

So €4.59 doesn't count as a reasonable price for a pint for you. Fair enough, but there aren't many places doing pale ale for that around Dublin.

So it's a worse deal than what I mentioned... the 4.59 price is the average price over 10 pints - Well Woopee!!
I go to the dvd rental place and it's one freebie after six rentals, excuse me if I'm not not too excited about the "one free pint after ten purchases" deal you have mentioned.

If you'll bear in mind that this makes no difference to the amount the customer pays.

Why wouldn't it? Super normal profits usually indicate a lack of competition.

Slight maths fail by me: over 11 pints, so €4.64, assuming a €5.10 cash price.

So where can I get a pint of decent pale ale in Dublin city centre on a Friday night for less than €4.64? I would like to share in the whoopee celebrations. DVD rentals lack the hop profile I'm looking for so don't represent an adequate substitution.

I'm a beer drinker, not a market analyst. Getting value for what I pay is my sole concern in the pub. €4.64 a pint for good beer looks like value to me.

I would also agree that the Galway group prices are high but to be honest they run a different sort of pub. They have good houses where people can sit down in peace to drink good beer served by barmen who know their bananas and without cocktails and shots distracting you; if you want wine well they keep a fair drop of it as well bar two colours. Ask them what such a beer is like and they will know what you are asking and they won't ram it down your throat either. I'd compare them to buying a Magee suit rather than an M+S one; both do the job but the former is getting the extra mile.

You should probably rephrase this as... 'So where can I get 5.68 litres of pale ale for less than €4.64 per pint'

The problem I find with the loyalty cards is that I always either loose them or just plain forget about them, I have two different Galway bay cards in my wallet at the moment!

For good value pints, JW Sweetman has €4 craft pints.
B & C also does €4 pints during the week, and their Buckleys is usually always good value (I think €4 also).
Porterhouse has their beer of the day usually at €4 and I'm pretty sure they have other beers around €4.50

But you'd have to buy 10 pints first.
    SMELLS OF RYANAIR TO ME.

& btw The PUNK IPA price deserves a boycott - seriously!

Also, their house beers are €5.10, what an annoying price!!

Could they not just leave it at €5 and save the punter a pocket load of change!
I really wish pubs would have rounder prices or level out the profits across all beers.

WJ Kavanagh seem to be doing this with their cask beers, always €5.
    Thank you WJ Kavanagh!

Plenty of bars in Ireland charge more than €5.60 for nitro keg beer and offer no loyalty card.

Was in Kelly's in Galway for a gig last night and had a few pints of hooker, didn't realise until I got home and emptied the wallet and found a receipt how much I was paying.

Only €4.10 for a pint of hooker, fierce good value!

Also, had a sierra nevada pale in Boojum thursday and it was only €3.95, so a feed and a good beer for €9.95 with my student card, happy days! Could easily start eating my burrito's a little slower and get a few bottles in there, it's a nice spot :P

Stormy port was €4 a pint in Galway, with the loyalty card it was great value.

    €3.63 a pint!

+1, like I said It's all a bit "Ryanairish" to me.
Dublin is ripe for more competition, something along the lines of this (LINKY) would clean up!

Unless it's on promotion? That's the price quoted to me by my sister's bf, he buys a few packs of them at a time when they come into stock in Tesco, Mahon Point.

Fair dues but Kelly's (and other places) in Galway - it's not Dublin.
(I wish it was like this here).

Anyone recommend something similar to 'Goose Island IPA'

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcShTqxYb_zWhoKbu92BPtVKRP6uaBugfoWVFRc5CUYaTmpjhb4v

My first step into beers that are off the beaten track and I love it.
I'll be trawling through this thread looking for recommendations! Any other sites worth looking at?

Think I might crack one open now!!

If Ryanair ran a bar they'd have the bar in city centre Dublin locations like Balbriggan or Delgany. We would need to bring our own glass, beermat and coolers and demand we pour it as well; failure to do so would cost us €6 each drink ex taxes; a €3 per drink surcharge applies to groups of 2+.

The bar would open at 05:00 and 22:00 for 80 minutes, closing 90 minutes before we arrive. It will then open for a 5 minute window before closing time, whereupon prices are €99 a pint, excluding surcharges; these rates will apply anytime the bar may be busy. Discounts will be offered of 1 cent pints if you arrange a night out 11 months in advance.

Finally there will be no transport to the pub whatsoever. Punters will be weighed entering and leaving while punters who flirt will be charged €40 to exchange contact details. The range will be just one beer, the staff will roar at us for even visiting the place and the pub will look like this....

Try Sierra Nevada pale ale or Odell's IPA or 5 barrel pale ale to start.
Maybe give Punk IPA a go too.

Goose Island IPA is a lovely beer.

You could try some of the local pale ales also.
O'Haras IPA, Galway Hooker, 8 Degrees Howling Gale and Metalman pale ale would all be somewhat similar (maybe a little tamer than Goose Island but still every bit as nice).

+1 on the Metalman -it's a shame it's not available in bottles.
    Superb beer.

    If Ryanair ran a bar....

Imagine if there was a Public Sector department in control of running bars!!!

The mind does wonder; What job Beernut does that allows him such copious amounts of time to travel abroad tasting beer?

Got two 6-packs yesterday. Yeah it's bizarre, it was there as a going-out-of-date price (yellow sticker) around christmas, but now it's gone back to a normal white sticker, but still €3 for a 6-pack. I assumed it was an error, but when the shelf was empty, I even asked the floor/off-licence manager when they'd be getting it back in and he said they were hopeful of getting it in that night, as it was selling so well at €3. So they do realise it's so cheap.

I really want to know why, but I don't want to push it in case it goes away.

Having a Lomza export (non-pasteurised) here

More into craft stouts & IPAs these days but its a solid enough effort

enjoying a franciscan well limited edition coffee porter now. Great beer (dont like porters but love a stout in general) 6.5% but i would guess 4% if i didnt know. Very pronouced coffee flavour and smell but they didnt go overboard with it. Nice low carb levels too. Might have to buy a few more!

+1 for the Goose Island and the Metal mans lovely stuff.
Enjoying a few bottles of Anchor Steam Beer, never had it before, really really nice stuff. There's a couple of sierra Nevadas in the fridge for later too.

Having an 'i hardcore you' 9.5% colab between mikkeller and brewdog. Not that different to hardcore, maybe a bit more fruity. Id go with hardcore though.

Had a variety of beers at Taste of Dublin last night, followed by some 5am Saint and the Thornbridge IPA on cask in Against The Grain.
Also dragged the gang from work in and had them all trying different beers at both Taste and in the pub afterwards.
They all really enjoyed trying the drinks and loved ATG!
