There's one in Tullow, and one in Bagnalstown. Don't know of one actually in the town though.

    Hi George,

yeah I know about those ones thanks, was just wondering if there was any in Carlow Town itself.

bagenalstown is a bit far, Tullow is closer but Carlow itself is closer and where we shop.

There will be one open in Athy shortly (beside Tegral on Kilkenny Rd) VV-Tech in Kilcullen are operating it. Was speaking to the lad in there about a conversion & they are waiting on Flo Gas to deliver it.

Excellent, thanks for that. I know exactly where it is.

    I wonder how much they'll charge ?

They seem to charge 80 odd cent in their other premises, so i am expecting it to be around that.
Have you got a conversion done?
If so where did you get it done & would you recommend them?

No haven't got a conversion done.

Athy is out of the way as we would have to take an 18 mile round trip just to fill up, same with Tullow.

I presume if they open one in Athy that Carlow wouldn't be far behind ?

I want to change the Prius at some stage so no point converting that, the MK III Prius on LPG would work out the cheapest car to run on the road bar Electric, it is very attractive option and I drove the MK III a while back and it's got a fair bit more poke than the MK II, more than the numbers suggest, that's down to the fact the Engine itself is much more powerful.

The Prius Plug IN would be even cheaper again but they are very rare and very expensive a Leaf would be much cheaper 2nd hand as they are available now for 16K Euro's in the U.K.

Other thing would be to convert an Accord Vtec, Golf GTI or something a little more fun and would cost around the same as a 60 mpg Diesel to run.

The guy doing the conversions in Athy has been operating as a mechanic for a while now, so maybe VV Tech are running some kind of franchising system. They seem to have expanded rapidly in the last while with outlets now in 5 counties. I think they only had two locations in Kilcullen & Naas up until fairly recently.

It's such a shame that Auto makers don't make much more LPG cars as an alternative to diesel as it's a much cleaner fuel than even petrol.

The E.U and Irish Government of course concentrate on Co2 and air quality and human health come last.

otoole station sells lpg in carlow.its 86c/l
i was researching allot and priced around for lpg conversion.
the most important thing is not price,or lpg system, but quality instalation.
folowing qoutes are for 02 bmw 525.all includes large spare wheel tank and filling point beside petrol filler cap.

vw tech -1300E. zenit system.cant find allot info about this system.

lpgireland -1500e .brc system.regarded as second best system available.looking at pictures on their facebook doesint look like tidy job

avservice- 900e. romano sytem.romano regarded as ok system, from italy.looks like tidy instalations, but read couple of negative comments on forums.it could be lies, but avoided them just in case

lpgain - 1050e. stag300 premium system.system massive in poland and europe.not as good as brc or prins but still ok.Also prins can be installed at extra 400e.prins is best system available today.also most expensive.instalations looks very tidy jobs

i went with lpgain.they have done lots instalations before, and i couldnt find any negative comments about them.i had to pay 100e deposit for booking, and will convert car in couple of weeks time.

    Really ? I didn't know that.

It would be a cheaper alternative to diesel and not to mention much cleaner. and no diesel engine related failures.

I just looked up the Dacia website and didn't see any LPG engines ?

I did see some very underwhelming engine offerings though, typical of Renault.

How much would you save on average in a week, after conversion.?
How long would it take to recoup your initial investment.?
Does it bring any other benefits. Like cheaper road tax or insurance.?
What are the service costs of keeping the system running properly.?
Would you be happy keeping a car that long.?

Loads of other things to factor in, other than cheaper fuel.

in my case i am thinking of converting a Hyundai Sonata 2.4
    i travel approx 500kms a week & petrol for the year (@1.60/l) is 4200EUR
LPG (@0.80l) is 2500EUR. Saving 1700 in fuel
Servicing cost is 50eur every 100hrs driving (in my case works out at about 10k kms so coincides with oil service)

    Year 1 cost conversion 1100, servicing 100, lpg 2500 total 3700 saving 500.
Year 2 is when it pays off.
No other benefits, tax & insurance stay the same.

My calculations are based on 10l/100km on petrol & calculated 12l/100km on gas & savings are 32EUR per week. 48 gas compared to 80 petrol
