TitanFall: The COD Killer

    For those not in the know, Jason West and Vince Zampella (the people that created Call of Duty) got into an argument with Activision back in 2010 which ultimately ended in them getting fired. They packed their bags, went to court, lost and set up a new studio called Respawn Entertainment. Most of the team over at Infinity Ward followed them but Robert Bowling stayed behind to work on MW3. Modern Warfare 2 was their last game.

    Fast forward three years and their "COD Killer" has finally been shown. Rumour has it that this is what they wanted to do originally but Activision made them make MW2 instead. Today, TitanFall was shown at E3.




    And some multiplayer game play....

    With Battlefield 4 (if you haven't seen the multiplayer gameplay yet, check it out! Jaw-dropping!) and TitanFall.....COD is essentially D.E.A.D. They're going to have to raise their game....

    They didn't lose, they got an undisclosed out of court settlement, thought to be in the region of $30m+

    Its xb1/360 pc release isnt it? will hardly kill cod when unavailable for ps4(which it seems will be the more popular console)
    and bf4 looks amazing

    Yeah Titan Fall looks awesome. MS seems to have better exclusive games coming than Sony

    I'd say it'll be huge on 360. New consoles are expensive and you'll see a lot of people waiting a few months before buying one and instead will just stick with the 360 IMO.

    On another note I still believe COD Ghosts will be huge. COD still has a huge fan base obviously and until TitanFall proves itself people will buy Ghosts or both. I reckon it'll be the next release that will suffer big time

    Lol cod killer? Neither of those games will out sell the next cod imho.
    Titanfall looks pretty good except for the jumping around. I can just imagine it now, im shooting at a guy on the ground but when i see the killcam hes 6 ft in the air lol. I wouldn't even watch the battlefield as its just not my cup of tea.

    That's what I was thinking, it won't kill it this release but if it turns out to be a good game and Ghosts is lacking, I can see a huge drop in CoD come the release in 2014

    360 figures
    blops 2 sold 6.2 million copies first week
    bf3 sold 2.1 million copies first week


    surprised at the figures thought maybe more even but to kill cod, titanfall seems to have a massive job on its hands although could really damage bf by the looks of those numbers

    It looks like an interesting game ,
    but alot different from cod.
    Theres wall running,parkour, the longer you run ,the faster you move.
    But i don,t like games where someone can just jump,to avoid gun fire.
    EG all players have jet packs ,so the can jump over obstacles ,walls.
    I think cod is very popular because its run and gun,
    easy to play.With many different weapons,perks,killstreaks.
    it,ll be easier to judge this when there,s a video of a 30 minute deathmatch.

    There,s not much info on it out there,
    does it have perks, killstreaks ,weapon upgrades.
    What modes are there beside deathmatch.
    Theres a video on gameinformer.com,about 10 minutes,
    says each player has a titan,
    you can command it to follow you around the map ,gaurd you etc
    .
    Will there be different classes, support,
    engineer etc

    I think the reason cod became successful was people wanted a modern game ,with modern weapons etc
    there were too many world war 2 games.
    eg i think the market for scifi combat games is more limited.
    IT could be like battlefield bad company,
    a big seller ,but not in the league of cod.

    IT looks like cod ,in the future with mechs.
    IT has alot of potential, if theres a lot of different modes, maps ,weapons .
    I CAN see a problem, if some people just jump around all the time,
    it,ll be hard to get 2 or 3 kills in a row .
    I,M glad they are just releasing it on xbox, as some companys
    release a game on 4 platforms,,pc ,ps3 etc

    then go out of business ,if it doesn,t sell 3million copys.

    I,D like it to have drones, senty guns ,c4 etc like cod
    otherwise its just players versus mechs.

    Theres a lot of people who play cod,bf3, eg would never buy a scifi futuristic game.
    I think bf3 is a more strategic game ,designed for team play ,
    so it,ll never sell as much as cod.

    Missed this. Thought I heard someone mention that XBOX 360 will be supported fully for a few years, not sure if it's true or not

    IT,LL be released on xbox 360, and pc ,and xbox one.
    When i hear cod killer ,it reminds me of wow.
    Everytime a good mmo comes out some people say, will this be a wow killer.
    And it gets maybe 5 per cent market share for 2 years.
    COD has a wide range of fans ,a good community base,
    even a very good modern warfare game would need massive advertising, and millions of pounds budget, to
    even have a chance to get sales over 3 million.

    Titan Fall me arse might be brilliant but its not coming to PS4 and I'm not going to buy M$ console so I'll stick with COD for my FPS fix :)

    Personally I can't wait for it. I am personally sick of CoD. I have been playing it since CoD 4 and since it has been getting worse and worse, to a point were I dont enjoy playing it anymore and I am not going to bother buying the new ghost version, as simple as.

    I can't play the old CoD 4, MW2, WaW versions anymore because there is barely enough online players. Because of that I am always thrown into the same lobby, so if the lobby happens to be laggy or is full of hackers I have no choice but to stop playing the game. MW3 is a bit better but is not as fun as it used to be since they "fixed" sitrep pro and then there is the invisibility hack which is very annoying.

    Worse is BO2, the main problem for me is lag compensation is killing me, now this also happens in MW3 but it doesnt seem to happen as much as in BO2. Second is that they made QS is so easy that even I can do it... so is full of snipers and therefore, 12 year old squeaking. Also, for some reason, BO2 makes who would have been an average to bad player in MW or MW2 look good!

    I am not going to bother with Ghost, I want something new. am I the only one who thinks CoD has been getting worse with time?

    So I will give TitanFall a try as soon as it becomes available

    After talking to a few people who have played both this and Ghost,they've said that Ghost's is good but this is far better and that the Mech's aren't OP or anything like that,

    It's like a 5 killstreak for a mech,people with the better gunskill almost always wins

    Little bit jealous of the PC guys and the Xboxers getting Titanfall. I`m the same as alot of COD players and imo the last decent COD was Black Ops 1. They are just getting worse and worse so Titanfall will be a breath of fresh air.
    As far as this being a COD killer no chance. I wish it would but people (myself included) will still buy and play COD and have no reason to why they do it !!

    Thanks returnNull. People can use that thread to discuss the game but I'll leave this open for people to discuss the effect it will have or is having on COD, for now.

    Playing the beta now, the game is very good, definitely very addictive. I stopped playing CoD after BO2, well Iplayed BO2 for over 1 week and Ghost for over 1 day and that was it for me.

    I think this game has the potential. At the moment it just a beta but the game is just how I like it, fast paced and easy enough. Graphics are very good and lag unnoticeable.

    Although I like the whole titan - pilot symbiosis I wouldnt mind playing only as a pilot, I imagine the full version will include different game types etc.

    This game was the main reason why I went for the XBOX one instead of the PS4.

    So, in conclusion, Brilliant game so far.

    Hard to believe it is a beta tbh, running almost flawlessly.

    I so hope this becomes a CoD killer. Although IMO CoD is dead already and you can always play BF4 is you dont like the whole futuristic atmosphere.

    naw this wont get anywhere near killing cod, the main reason being titanfall aint on ps4 so cod will remain the no1 choice for playstation owners, and i dont think were(ps4) missing much in fairness

    I bought every COD up until Ghosts. Wasn't excited for it, didn't buy it.

    I was hoping Titanfall would deliver and I'm hearing good things. It's a start. This is Respawns first game....they'll no doubt play around with things in DLC and their next game. Then I think we'll all have a better idea as to what works and what doesn't.

    It's a breath of fresh air as was Battlefield for me (coming from a COD background). Competition can only benefit this genre which IMHO was getting increasingly stale over the last number of years.

    Yep if EA want to sign exclusive deals with M$ so be it, still wouldn't make me buy an xbone just to play this. Will be interesting what the next couple of years will be like for COD with 3 different studios producing their own flavour of COD, just hope they don't try and copy Titanfall giant robots!
