In our own interest can as many as poss keep eidw feed running in the background? it uses minimal resources, but if listener numbers stay high it gets noticed as a worthwhile feed.

    Thanks again,
    Pat.

Not sure about anyone else, but did yee hear "World #1 Tiger woods is *beep* " on the LiveATC feed a second ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,149 ✭✭✭Mech1

Thanks guys, Ive seen it at No3 quite a few times since it went live,we dont have a hope of getting to No1 just not the population or interest, why is Istanbul so popular?

Any advice on feed improvements, ive already locked out 121.800 Ground, as it was too poor reception, i was thinking of locking out Clearance on 121.8750 as its a lot of time spent with poor response.

    Thoughts please.

Unfortunately there were unauthorised transmissions made on Tower frequency yesterday.Operations were transferred to a reserve frequency for a time.
I hope the courts will respond accordingly.

I heard that yesterday and it sounded like kids, one announcement was that there was chicken Kiev for dinner :(

What was really worrying was it sounded like the transmissions were from a flight deck, you can hear distinct ambient noise in the background. These are almost to trace quickly so doubt if the courts will be involved.

    Yey, I wasn't going mad! :D

On a seperate note though, how do you trace them? They're broadcasting anonymously on a radio frequency, though maybe there's something I'm not aware of with Radios...

Will do. I use it in the car where the phone streams it through the stereo. Once I've 3G reception it's on.

It is possible triangulate the position of the transmission but it needs to be a constant transmission and some specialist kit is needed. There has always been talk of moving to a digital platform to secure the system and open up more channels but it has never gone beyond a discussion due to the global effort and huge expense involved. In saying that a lot of airlines are using datalink for transatlantic positional reports and moving away from HF transmissions but this is on newer aircraft and some older ones are still using HF and selcal while over the water.

Got an extra 4 or 5ft onto the old discone height this evening, I dont notice any difference:mad:

Building a J-pole from 1/2" copper pipe on Sat so that might help, if not i'm gonna get a D-777

i provide the second feed (that is down) for the tower. I'm away for a week but I'll swap out my rasberry pi for a pc when I get back on Fri next due to its flaky behaviour.

Mech 1, do you want me to share any frequencies with you. I'm on high ground in Dun Laoire and might be able to get better reception and avoid you killing yourself :)

Has anyone got some feedback on the app?Would you recommend it?Or not....

Yeah Declan we could work something out once you get a stable feed, would work well if you had good ground based feeds as that is my problem atm.

Added tower back in while Declan's feed is down, also added op's to see how it goes.

121.100 Approach is very poor, thats my biggest problem. Wierd as sometimes its grand, and surely they all are using the same transmission power / location.

i'll give it a listen next week and check quality. should be ok. I have line of sight to hangers etc.

The quality of the VHF transmission can be affected by atmospheric conditions, so it will vary depending on the weather.

Guys I get the ground and approach freqs very clearly here but I have been up to my bits in work this last week and have not had time to set it up. I am free at the weekend so will get it up and running then. The software is all configured but i need to split the antenna cable so get connected to the reciever. I plan to go with approach, tower and ground for a start and we will see how it goes. Sorry for the delay but it has been one of those weeks :(
