I'm not experienced enough to distinguish hops and malts and yeasts that well, but now I know what hops must be, and I must be more of a malt man.

It wasnt bad by any stretch and had some nice things going on.

I agree. I put off trying it for a long time as I've never been a fan of the brown ales I've tried but it really was great.

Having a Curious IPA produced by English Wines Group plc? Probably one of the best UK IPAs I've had, 5.6%, zesty, fresh tasting and spicy hops and just enough bitterness along with the right amount of fizz and a nice hazy malt backbone, thrilled I picked up their London porter aswell. Shame about the 33cl bottles.

Dark Arts Stout. Rich tasting medium bodied stout. Moderate carbonation.

I had one of those for the first time last week. Yummy stuff.

Yeah really nice. The IPA was the best of the 3 that I tried from that brewery.

The classic is Mackeson's, which can be got in Sainsbury's up north. It comes in 33cl cans. Down here, you can usually find Left Hand's milk stout in specialist beer off licences.

i had left hands nitro version of its milk stout only last night. Very nice and odd.
Carbed with forced nitrogen rather than co2 which gives a big creamy head. got it from drinkstore.
You are also encouraged to pour it vigorously which is fun

I really like Mikkeler milk stout.
I've yet to try left hand milk stout but have heard that its very good stuff.

Was moving some stuff around last night and found 2 bottles of Dungarvan Coffee and Oatmeal stout at the back of a cupboard. Might keep them till Sept/Oct.

Found also a bottle of Dogfish Head IPA 90 min. Cooled it a little and it was perfect.

I need to keep track of beers I am stashing in the cupboards.:P

Left Hand's milk stout is one of my favourite beers. I also quite like St Peters Cream Stout - it's definitely a beer that benefits from being taken out of the fridge well in advance of consumption if it gets put in at all. You should find it easily enough.

I think Galway Bay Brewing's Buried At Sea is a great milk stout. It's the finest beer they produce as well so it's great to see it back again after a bit of an absence.

    Hey Beernut

Have always wanted to try Left Hand Milk Stout

When you say "specialist" would the likes of Deveaney's in Dundrum or Sweeney's in Glasnevin stock it? They're my "go to" off licences when I see a recommendation on here I'd like to try

Sipping a small bottle of Innis & Gunn Original here at the moment. Fantastic stuff. Don't know why I haven't bought it more often.

    Leffe Tripel, 8.5% ABV.

    leffetriple.jpg

Pours with a good head and has a dull dark amber colour.

Smooth to the taste with a subtle hint of bitterness. It is lovely.

    9/10

    Leffe 9, 9% ABV

    leffe9.jpg

Pours with a big sustained foamy head. Clear orange colour. Fruity and a bitter/sweat taste to it. Smooth going down. I prefer the Triple.

    7/10

    La Trappe Tripel, 8% ABV

    latrappetripel.jpg

Pours with a very small thin head. A lacklustre amberish colour.

Nice and malty with a slight tangy taste. it has a good balance and worth a try. Will drink again.

    8/10

    Bon Secours, 8% ABV

    bonsecours.jpg

Pours with a nice head. Has a healthy caramel colour. It is made with candy sugar but isn't overly sweet until you get to the end of the glass, there is sugary sediment left over.

It was ok. Nothing overly remarkable. Would drink again but wouldn't get excited about it.

    6/10

Heh, I haven't drank them all tonight. In the last few weeks I have been drinking, maybe 3 different beers an evening. I'm on my second one for tonight and wondering which one to have next.

No work for me for a few weeks yet :D

I find if I drinkk more then 3 it's harder to acually taste them and you are just drinking for the sake of it. Which is good too :p
