Meta thread. Give me a few words to help introduce people to after hours

Hello all,

Following on from our feedback discussion (It's stickied on the front page if you haven't seen it) it has been pointed out that it might be beneficial for new posters to have a brief intro to the ethos (for want of a better word... smell perhaps?) of after hours.

The "like the pub" simile is one that we've kicked around for years and I don't think it quite fits so I've gone ahead and snipped that part from the charter for now.

So I'm hoping to crowd-source steal your words for the purposes of updating the charter slightly.

So, how best would you describe our strange little corner of the internet to an alien that had never come across boards.ie before?

In all seriousness: AH is a place with massively diverse opinions, some of which might offend. If you have an issue, f**k off and go to another thread.

On the one hand I dislike the pub reference.
However on the other hand it would be quite AH-like if we told the new posters to f**k off in the intro to AH.

The only real way for people to learn what the forum is about is to dive in and take part in it. I don't think it's possible to spell it out for noobs in a brief intro tbh. After 5 years here I'm still not sure what the hell AH is.
