Just had the OH time me on a 12 sec Coors :D
    Target:
Lap 1, sub 20 sec beer, sub 90 sec lap.
Lap 2, sub 30 sec beer, sub 90 sec lap.
Lap 3, sub 30 sec beer, sub 90 sec lap.
Lap 4, sub 40 sec beer, sub 90 sec lap.
    Sounds simple on paper

Right so first off, I've answered two of my previous questions regards prerace meal and beer temp. Stuck 4 bottles of coors in the freezer around 6.30 pm and had a decent dinner of pork chops and home made oven baked chips. Had lots of chips for carbo purposes as long run tomorrow (that may not happen now by the way )

Was pretty stuffed starting but didn't realise until once I got stuck into the first beer. Being stuffed was bad enough but the major problem was the beer was also too fecking cold. 2 hours in the freezer is way too much, very hard to gulp when that cold.

My 400 reps were improvised runs around my estate, I've the 2 nosiest neighbours in the world and they were literally hanging out the window, by lap 3 they were both on their phones I'm guessing to one another wondering what the **** was going on. Anyway struggled all the way through but logged a decent enough time of 9.05.

I'm still going to go with the corona this Friday but I had none in the house hence my reason for doing a coors specific session. I'm a little worried as the corona has a little more fizz and has an extra 25 mls per bottle. Doesn't sound like a lot but when I was on bottle 4 tonight it took me about 25 seconds to drink the final 50-60 mls so it is the great unknown

Right lads, I'm off to put the shopping away. I'd say the mrs is going to have some craic finding her breakfast cereal tomorrow :)

By the way what's the craic with puking. I got a little puke up a couple of minutes after I finished. Is it "OK" to get sick once you've crossed the line? Also I guess the penalty lap that has to be run if you puke is without a beer, is it? Finally I love you guys

    :D Brilliant

Fcuk it, I wasn't drinking tonight until I read the last few posts, I've since put 2 cans of Guinness in the freezer, poured another that was in the fridge and necked a bottle of Miller in another 'practice'..... I'm fcuked with the drinking element as it took me 31 seconds as timed by CL who won't try one tonight as she reckons she's eaten about 3,000 Maltesers in the last hour ;)

She's a party girl and would prefer if this was my chosen event ;)

Jesus lads, brilliant thread, I hadn't read it for a while! I was planning on utterly winging it and not bothering with any specific training ha, but feeling horribly underprepared now. I may at least sort out my chugging ability over the next night or so, but I reckon I'll be banking on the running part to make up time, so expect me to be sprinting by only to spend ages in the beer transition zones!

Drq, ya mind pming me any more details about it please, i didn't get the last one.

I'm so under prepared for this.

Thinking of doing a late surge, with some training on Thursday night during footie.
Wonder what the lads will think of me disappearing every few mins for 20-30 secs coming back smelling like a brewery.
Should make for an interesting game.

Another concept that I might try out is beer interval training. I'm thinking off a 2 bottle warm up, then straight into 3x15 seconds, with only a 40 second recovery to remove the gas.

Thankfully I'll have help from above on Friday :)

Hey guys, I was doing a quick google search last night when I came across this thread! Brilliant to see so much hype and training being done for the event!

All the best for race day and thanks for all the kind words! I know I am a very amateur athlete but I just launched a free website so feel free to check it out and give me a few views! http://beermile.wix.com/joshharris

The page contains all my youtube stuff and all that kind of thing in one location!

The best training session is a specific one with running and drinking involved... I like to go in on a normal stomach, and unlike many others I like to drink some water before the start so I am not thirsty! Medium temperature is optimal so hopefully time it right taking it out of the fridge, and maybe take some ice if you have a long car trip to the race! The extra volume of a 355ml beer doesnt sound like much but big respect to those who go the 355ml option, it causes me more damage than a beer with higher alcohol %!

    Cheers

    Josh Harris 5:04 ;)

Well balls! Now I have to get myself some 355ml bottles! There'll be some rapid beer tasting tonight.

Best celebrity endorsement since CO'L graced these pages. Thanks Josh! I have a feeling we're going to have a whole new level of respect for your WR in a few days time!

I'm just looking forward to being able to pass wind in public like a man for a night and not get judged for once!

Also the frothy dribble face and the not getting judged!! ;)

My drinking abilities are seriously challenged (hard to believe i know!) but hoping to see some improvements after meno's necking tutorial this evening...

It's too mainstream for them ;)

Craft beer first sound like a good idea for the beer mile... You should all be ashamed of yourselves by the way.

    Athletes me arse!

It's a little disconcerting to see these two events listed together on this forum...

Under-strength (4%), made in Trent (by Coors), and awful by all accounts! Sounds perfect!

Corona is pretty much the only bottle you can commonly get around these parts in 355ml form.
I will probably try it out this evening for my beer 1/2 mile and compare to the Coors Light times.

PBR comes in the 355 as well but you'd probably have to go to a pretty well stocked offy for this... I reckon the Molson Canadian sh&t would be perfect for the BM good call on that Gavlor!

edit- oops didn't see KC's post that its understrength - not perfect then- avoid....over priced Canadian crap

Just to make sure I understand this right. There is a groundswell away from Coors Light towards Corona because it comes in a larger bottle and people feel that some stranger in Australia will have more respect for you, and TRR will have less disrespect for you, if you choose Corona. Coors Light is still an acceptable* beer though. Correct?

(*acceptable in the context of beer miling rather than general drinkability)

I think to be fully compliant with Kingston rules it needs to be 355ml with 5.0% or 375ml at 4.8%. If you can't find a 355ml are there any 375ml available?

I was slightly under the requirement with 330ml and 4.6% last time. Next time I'll make sure to be 100% legal. I don't like seeing "invalid beer under Kingston rules" beside my result on my profile on beermile.com LOL.

Though if you ain't videoing the race and ain't sending in the results to beermile.com then it matters little really.

some stranger???? I have posters of the man on my bedroom wall. He's the beer mile world record holder. Show a bit of respect ;)

Yes coors is acceptable*. The 355ml bottles are those used in the US and Australia and are required for world record purposes.

edit: didn't see pisco's post regards strength. hmmm don't think corona has the required 5%

That's like asking Haile Gebrselassie if it's ok to run 24.36 miles for the marathon distance, and still count it as a world record. If you want to compare yourself to greatness, you have to be prepared to go the distance. ;)

Pretty much what Pisco said. I am totally ok w/ 330 ml and 4.3% as cut points for this Beer Mile. The Kingston Rules are what govern the official, recognised Beer Mile times though and if you don't follow them, your time can't be internationally recognised. TBH if anyone thinks have a shot at say sub 7- I'd advise you to follow the Kingston rules

Moosehead comes in 355ml bottles too. I don't think this is the same Canadian beer mentioned previously (Molson?). I bought it in Tesco not too long ago.

Will our results be going on the beermile.com website? If so, I'm also going to rethink my choice of beer.
