    Lough Atalia Road will be closed from 7pm tonight to 6am tomorrow; I saw it on one of the councils lit up notices earlier.

    Could it be anything to do with that?

    OP, try describing the sign using old-fashioned words.

    What colour is it? What's on it? What's it attached to?

    (My guess is that it's one of the "CP 4" style signs that appeared aroud the docks area shortly before the emergency response exercise earlier this year. But that's a guess based soley on my crystal-ball's view of what was in your head. Could be quite wrong.)

    Its a pilot scheme from the Corpo to keep drivers stuck in traffic up to date with with Premier League scores.
    They're off their heads if they think Crystal Palace would beat Robin Van Persie 4-2 though

    But what does it mean or stand for?

    RVP = rendevous point
    CP = control point

    If you want to know more about what they mean, suggest volunteering with your local Civil Defence organisation, they'll give you training.

    its probably part of the emergency plan for an incident either at the docks or the fuel tanks depot.

    Yep. There was a training exersize recently at the docks, Lough Atalia was closed off, and I guess this point was established for the Emergency teams.

    There's another one at the other end of the docks at the Dun Angus/Padraigs corner. Think it says CP6 with another sign underneath it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,084 ✭✭✭✭Mrs OBumble

    Yeah, they are at various places around the docks.

    If that's CP6, then you can pretty much guarantee that there are CP1 ... CP5 around. Possibly even a map of 'em all buried deep in the council's website.

    (OT: "Padraig's Corner" has a nice ring to it. Perhaps they should extend the footpath there, and put up a statue of himsellf!)

    Good idea! Must get on to Padraig Conneely. He might think the statue will be of himself and push it through :-)

    VIP area?
    Strangely enough I noticed earlier that the sign that was under the CP6 one has now been moved above it and is painted yellow. Maybe someone hit their head or something. Think it says something about parking.
