I never said the 45/ZS did either ;)

I was just saying the 400 was the last to have one.

Still makes me chuckle though when its included in an ad that the the 75/45/25 etc have the Honda or BMW engine
Makes me laugh as well especially when they have a pic of the engine on the ad and it's plain for all to see that it's a k series.:p

My comment was based on first hand experience with these engines and not what's been said down the pub :p

    Mine too :)

Had a K-series engine in my Rover 75 from when it was 5 years old until it was 10.5 years old. Very reliable. No head gasket or any other serious problems and I never even bothered to change the belt either :D

similarly, we had a 1.4 k series in a ZR for around 5 years, the head gasket went, but that was it for the 5 years really. and that car ever only made short trips, around 2 miles to work and back a day for 5 years so in fairness to it, it done well. there was a few toher consumables on the way but nothing much.

Some people just have good luck with cars, it seems you are one of them :D

In all seriousness the Rover 75 is a fine car and is a very nice looking car in mg zt form Imo, it's just a pity that the engine in them isn't more robust, otherwise they would be serious value for money. I know you could be lucky and get no bother from them but if they do give trouble they can end up being a nightmare.

To be fair that was good going, it's just a shame that all rover couldn't be that reliable.

Not at all but I admit I spent more time looking at the engine temp indicator than at any other instrument in that car :D

I have a secret hankering for one of them, but only with the hydropneumatic suspension. What way can you tell if it has it in this second generation C5?

Current model has hydroactive as well, but again I'm not sure which engine / trim level / year / transmission ones do

Are you having a laugh? Most owners / sellers wouldn't have a clue if their car has hydro or not...

Think the exclusive spec ones in the new model have it, means minimum of 2 litre engine. 2.7 diesel auto exclusive would be nice...

Sorry, misread the post, didn't see the second generation bit

Looks like you're right! Exclusive spec on the new model. The newer 1.6 turbo petrol (156BHP) has it too - that engine would suit me. Sorry for off topic, that's a few years away from bangernomics, maybe I should start saving :)

I know, no tax and no NCT but we a bit of haggling you can get the car back on the road for less than 2k.

someone did:D picking it up next saturday, a whole heap of car for 1400e:P

well i picked it up this morning in ennis, wafted up to gort then cross country to pallas karting cosseted by leather seats and cooled by ice cold aircon, then wafted back to clifden this evening, averaged 35mpg which i'm feckin delighted with from a 2.5l V6:D all the time i was wondering why the hell you would by a rattly old diesel avensis with galactic mileage when for 1400 you can waft around in near silence!

Ehh? How do arrive at that conclusion elmolesto? If for example it needed 4 tyres, a cat a few shocks and new brakes you certainly won't be getting back on the road for less than €2k

Because when it comes round to taxing it you'll be wishing you had an Avensis? :P:D

Congrats and well wear. Had a good prod around one last weekend and they are a lovely bus. I'm still not a fan of the front end styling, but I'm sure I could get used to it if needed

I sold a newer, better-spec'd one for less than that 3 years ago. They're crap I'm afraid - especially in 8v form.

Definitely not worth 2k even if you could manage it!

You'll never convince the Irish. Best be quiet about it though, you never know. You might spoil our little secret :D

Toyotas are the best. You'd want a Japanese car for reliability. And the tax on anything over 1.6 is ridiculous anyway :p

35MPG is easy enough to do in pretty much any big engined big car on a long spin on open roads with smooth driving and a light foot (and not exceeding the speed limits)

my route today consisted of 80mph motorways, twisty, bumpy country roads, fast N routes and a good few overtakes, i certainly wasn't going easy on her but i wasn't thrashing either
