PS3 Controller not turning on or charging?

I haven't used my PS3 in quite a few months and when I turned it on today the controller wasn't working nor charging when I plugged it in. It's been plugged in now for about 20 minutes or so and still not getting any life out of it. As I said, neither the PS3 or controller has been used in months so should I just give it some time or could something else be wrong with it? Thanks in advance.

Do you have an alternate cable you could try, the cables seem to constantly die on me.

Second that, check the cable if you can. It's usually the fault

I have as many as 4 cables, one for the controller, one for a SatNav, and another two for cameras. I've used them all before to charge it without any problems.

Can't be a problem with the cables themselves. I'm thinking now it must be a broken controller as it's plugged into the PC which has been used to charge it before. Been there for about half an hour now and still no joy.

UPDATE: Last week I opened up the controller and found that the battery and a few wires were a bit out of place. When I moved them back to their places it started flashing again within seconds of plugging it into a charger. It was fiddly trying to put it back together again properly but eventually managed. Seems fixed. :)
