Well I broke out and bought a new Amazone. I will be fitted to the bogey we already have.
With ours out of commission I got in the contractor to cover the farm. Never again the amount of complaining about opening and closing gaps. He even asked would I send someone to open and close them.
His big issue was that it was only 1 bag urea/acre.

Some lads are a sight its like they dont want work.

We have a very large contractor in the area highly efficient would consider a 30acre job as important as a 200acre job. All the smaller ones give out yards about him yet when I get the smaller ones to do wrapping or fert all I get is complaining. Sicken your whole!!!

We have had 3 cases in milkers and all getting meal with cal mag. All were bulling and under pressure. Our farm would be low in Mg.
We have started dusting Calmag again about twice a week as is no rain to be sure.

Maybe someone could clarify for me but I imagine that if we are having clinical cases they're probably sub-clinical cases also. We are particularly prone to Tetney here had seen cases every month of the year

What's the best way to inject 20ml of Synulox, 10ml each side at the hip? I find that it puts a lump up if I put it all in the one place. Plus the bloody syringe is hard to push down!

put bottle in some warm water , this makes it easier to inject, vet was unable to administer it here one day as the syringe was too hard to push down

Hey Delaval just wondering you said you put out a bag of urea/acre. is it not a bit late in the year for urea

had another one there, wasnt 100% happy with her at milking time, checked her when checking for heats and she found it hard to get up.... a bit staggery but no trembling, brought her up gave her a bottle and 2 bullets, let her out to paddock beside house, other one from earlier is back chewing now

Hi Are you group feeding the meal? Are the heifers being pushed back and not getting enough calmag?

no heifers are on 4kg of meal/day in parlour, cows on 3 and autumn calvers on 2, have yellow tapes on autumn calvers, green on heifers and rest get 3kg spread over am and pm milking

the slightest drop of moisture will LOCK up a bottle of synulox, use one needle for drawing off the bottle and another for injecting animal

never use the syringe for any else

We had more cases than normal this year too, even though cows have always had Mg lick buckets. I think plants can take up more Mg when soil warms up. It's the opposite with this cold spring. Potash locks up Mg too.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

There's a reason he does more business than the rest of them ;)

Regarding tetany, I'm interested in bob's comment about the ca/mg ratio in his fertiliser. I was reading a bit about fertiliser last night and according to an australian department of ag guide there are 6 macro nutrients: NPK which we all know, S which we've heard if, and Ca and Mg are the other two. Keen to find out more. Possibly more important for those farmers that use a lot of chemical fertiliser.

Why not inject in he neck . If they get an infection on the hip it will cost you when the animal is killed.

was thinking that and is there a reason to give 2x10 mls, would 1x 20ml not do?
