    Hi Robbie,

I am doing a Post Grad course and I received a letter stating that I do not qualify for the Special Rate of Grant.

The letter stated that while your reckonable income is below the limit your payment of the jobseekers Allowance was not long term as required as per schedule 2. There was no calculation or reference to the days that I received jobseekers allowance within the letter.

I was made redundant in October 2010 and secured short term unemployment up until May 2011.

I was unemployed from May 2011 up until June 2012 and from August 2012 to present.

I am currently on Back to Education Allowance.

I did have get short term work from 25th June 2012 until August 2012.

A person in the department said that I had to work 391 days to qualify for the special fees grant however I worked from Friday May 2011 until Monday, 25 June 2012 which is 395 days.

I also have a mortgage which I can't afford to pay and I may have to drop out of the course if I can't pay the fees.
    I would appreciate your help.

I would greatly appreciate your help.

    Adrian

In order to qualify you need 391 days jobseekers allowance and jobseekers benefit prior to 31st December 2011. I would assume they counted your jobseekers benefit from May - December 2011 which would not come to 391 days

    Hi

My boyfriend received his letter yesterday saying he was awarded part maintenance - 25% adjacent. Just wondering is that a first payment or all that he will be getting?

    Thanks.

He just gets 305 maintenance plus the 2000 fees

If you think this is too low according to the means test then you could appeal

hi sorry to dredge this back up again, i am a masters student and i was denied cover for fees back in october as susi said i had not finished last year and the progression requirements were not there i appealed this in november and I received a letter on the 25th of march saying i was entitled to postgraduate fee contribution 100% but the letter was sent to the wrong household and i received it later, now my college are looking for the remaining fees and i have yet to appeal that decision as i was hoping to have my full fees covered as i have friends whose parents are working or have a lot more assets and have received full fees, both my parents are on disability and i am wondering if anybody doing a postgrad course has had any trouble like this or any stories of people who have received full cover

100% IS full fees. That means fees up to a total of €6,750. Show that letter to the college and they won't ask for any money. The maintenance grant portion is no longer given to postgraduate students

    Hi Duckielover,

If you're attending a master's or post grad course then the award for fees is € 2,000. This is the max award available unless you qualify for the special rate of the grant. Then you could be entitled to receive up to € 6,750 of fees. There is no maintenance for the master or post grad courses.

You can appeal the decision if you feel you qualify for the special rate of the grant. The appeals form can be located through the following link: http://www.cdvec.ie/getattachment/Student-Supports/Grants/SUSI-Appeals-Form---August-2012.pdf.aspx

Also if you would like me to look into your file can you mail me the following details:

Hello, I've just received the letter stating I've been awarded 'Full Maintenance and 100% Fees adjacent'

I take this to mean that I will receive the €1,215 maintenance grant AND the Student contribution will be paid to the college for me.

    Is this correct?

Hello again, As stated above I was awarded the grant on the 2nd of May. I also contacted NUIG Fees office that day and forwarded them my grant letter as per their request. I have still not received the Student contribution portion of the grant (27 days later). Can someone help me please? This is becoming quite urgent for me.

Did you pay NUIG the fees initially?

Yes I did, and I explained that to them, and they asked me to send them the grant letter, and I did. They said They'll forward the Student contribution, which I already paid, to my address once SUSI makes the payment to them.

There is a chance its in the post I haven't talked to the fees office since early last week. I'll check again in the morning.

The exam results were suppose to be out today. I logged in to see my results only to find out that SUSI have paid the 2nd instalment of my tuition fees and I cannot see my results until the 2nd instalment is paid. The college told me that they made several attempts to contact SUSI in relation to this but no explanation was given to them and now I'm getting the run around by their Support Desk.

Just wondering if anyone can help me.I applied for a grant for a masters on 20 May. I was in college before and received a full special rate grant from 04-07.I left this course and went back to college in 2010, completed my degree and paid full fees (5726) for three years.I'm 26, live with my parents and my father gets a invalidity pension and is also on his final year of the CE scheme,(two payments which are under the required social welfare payments). Anyone have a clue if I would be entitled to the full wack of the grant, or just the 2,000?

    PANIC!!!!!!

I am an undergrad student just started my second year in NUIM. I live in Co.Louth.

I qualified for the BTEA last year and got the 100% non adjacent rate to cover me for travel which it only just about did! (Wife only working 2-days per week as we cannot afford Childcare for two kids below 5yo!) I'm 4 weeks into the new semester and I receive notification from SUSI that I can only receive EITHER the grant OR the BTEA, NOT both like last year!!!

Got social welfare to check out for me and they had heard nothing about this change until I contacted them!

After contacting some central office I have heard that this is because of a budget '12-'13 adjustment!

This adjustment is going to cause me to drop out of college as I cannot afford to commute and my biggest problem is that I only found out yesterday! The deadline to defer has passed (I think, I'm going in to college admin tomorrow to see what can be done!) which means if I drop out I won't get fees paid to take this year!!

I didn't miss lectures, labs, tutorials or assignment deadlines (no extensions!) and I didn't have to repeat any exam!!

My degree is a four year Hons Degree in Science and to stop now at the beginning of year 2 would be catastrophe!!! I don't know what to do!!!

    HELLLLLLP!!!!

This has been the case for a good few years - SUSI messed up last year giving you the grant - they shouldnt have
