Do you judge posts on boards when you see who made them?

You be surprised how you remember certain peoples usernames on here based on stuff u have seen them say in different threads.

There are a few on here soon as i see them i know what to expect no matter what the subject is.

Step away from the laptop. Too much time on Boards I reckon.

Thats an example of what i mean :P.

Your obviously part of this site a long time so you have gotten very familiar with many different posters. So your bound to favor certain ones over others even though i imagine u hardly know a thing about most of them in real world.

There are definitely a few posters who I would be slightly more drawn to. Wibbs being case in point - I learn stuff from him almost daily. Do I agree with him just because he's wibbs? nope, not at all, we've had one or two disagreements :P

If I like/agree with a post, I'll thank it regardless of who has posted it.

Out of interest ok do u yourself for example notice there certain topics dont get as much attention on here because of who posts them??

Or even posts in a thread that get ignored but if one the cool kids posted it be different lol.

I read threads , 10mins later I forget those threads , I don't use the forum a lot to be able to recognise names.

    Not in general, no.

If a topic is interesting, it will make for good conversation and people will get involved regardless of who the OP is.

There are exceptions - if an opinion is very controversial and it's posted by someone as their first post - people will automatically assume they are a troll, and to be honest - they're usually right and we find they are a re-reg of a banned poster.

If someone is posting rubbish on a daily basis people are going to eventually get a bit bored of them. That's human nature though. If you knew a guy who only spewed the same shyte day in and day out, you'd eventually stop listening to him.

So you dont think favoritism or dislike or like for someone ever comes into it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭Prodigious

It happens a lot on here but I don't think any of the guilty parties will admit it. Doesn't really bother me though. I don't care how much thanks I get on my posts.

If you weren't such a negative creep people would like you more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,447 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

There is one thing I've noticed.
A mod will nearly always get more thanks than a regular poster.

For instance, if a regular poster posted something on a thread and a mod posted the exact same thing two posts later, you can nearly always guarantee that even though the other poster said it first, the mod will get more thanks.
Id say that's mainly down to people either wanting to stay on the mods good side, or kind of kissing arse in the hope of becoming a mod themselves.
It's always been the way though, as far as I've seen.

I wouldn't say never, it certainly does at times. I've seen it. In general though, and for the mostpart no.

I only judge posters who have been known to be absolute fucktards. Chemical burn was one of those fucktards I'd no time for and judged his posts before I even read them without helping.

A predominant majority of other posters I don't judge though, unless I've reason to.

Ehh, I dunno El G, I think that might be perception more than anything. One thing I've noticed and quite frankly admired about boards is that in a discussion, you can disagree with Moderators and even Site Administrators, without fear of anyone bearing grudges.

Sure, I've seen Moderators posts be shown appreciation moreso than ordinary posters, but that's usually when they ban a poster from a discussion for their usually inflammatory opinion. In that case the Moderator would be posting in an official and unbiased capacity and posters would appreciate the fact that the inflammatory poster was banned from the discussion, moreso than thinking the Moderator banned them because they disagreed with their opinion.

How soon is now, there's exactly what I was saying earlier too- I disagreed with El G above, but when he said Wibbs is like the yoda of boards, I thanked his post because I have my own suspicions that Wibbs is like Skynet gone sentient- the guy knows far more about such a wide range of topics than the human brain could possibly handle, and the way he's able to convey his opinions and ideas in the way a two year old child would understand it, that's a skill that I wish I could grasp!

Again though in saying that- while Wibbs is certainly a knowledgeable poster, I've had no issue with expressing a different opinion to theirs and again there's no begrudgery there that might carry into another thread on a totally different subject.

I think some posters just hold on to stuff for too long and that can close them off to another posters opinion that they might agree with on another thread, but they missed it because they dismissed the poster or had them on ignore (horrible system the whole ignore and thanks functions tbh, but that's only IMO!).

I don't think it's necessarily a mod thing but I do think people will judge posts based on the user. I do think there's favouritism. As in, two people could say the exact same thing but the second person will get more thanks, not necessarily because they are a mod, but just because people like/respect that poster more.
Probably happens to myself too :pac: *sobs* I'm so unpopular.

As for me, yeah I notice who posts what on here. There are some posters which you can predict what they're going to say before you even read the post just based on the thread topic and their username popping up. That's when you know you have to get off the internet  :D

TBH, I like, never really look at who posted what. Even when I quote someone, I rarely pay attention to their name.

This probably because I tend to remember their profile images better, but sooooo many in boards are the same, so I don't even look at that here.

So, I guess the simple answer is no. I read the post than judge it and couldn't give two fcuks who wrote it.

I'd say it does, even if only on a subscious level.

I'm with negativecreep - half the time I can't remember where I know the username from and even if I could, what they posted.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Mostly no. The only time I do it is with posters who are one trick ponies. It's hard not to pre-judge someone when 99% of their posts are conspiracy theories, religious arguments or PS bashing for example.

There are a couple of posters whose opinions disgust me and who have insulted me in the past but who I have thanked on other topics. It's just a message board, no point being pointlessly petty.
