Just to let you all know I had my last exam on Friday and Have enjoyed the weekend and today immensely without having them hanging over me :p

Today I also was doing deliveries of magazines all around south county dublin so I apologize to anyone who might have come across an obnoxiously parked Insignia today :o

Does anyone know if Gardai get much training on how to direct traffic at a busy junction? Just watched a driver get a bollocking for something that wasn't his fault after a Garda got confused over what traffic she was allowing to go.

Incidentally I'm walking hence I has a good view of the whole thing

Oh and as I'm nice the Dart crossing at Merrion gates is faulty and the road is closed if anyone goes home from work that way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Problem spotted. Barriers are fecked as someone cleaned them out of it and out of 13 men, 9 are standing/sitting around and 4 are trying to solve the issue.

And I was supposed to go into the office today a minute from that crossing. Dodged a bullet for getting home then...

Quick question guys. Does anyone have a general notion of what colour wires correspond to RR+- and RL+- on phillips head units? The current setup is a hodge podge of random wires and a rainbow of colours.

I've gotten the car wiring back to the head unit but only the front speakers are wired up leaving me with not a notion of what wires to join.

Figured it out, some alp had wired the front and rear backwards. I'm now presuming the Grey and and the White are for the remaining two speakers.

Depends on how good or bad the mechanic is really. A good one will always be busy and you'll need an appointment.

This. Also, take no sh!t from them if you feel they're trying to make a quick buck! I had that happen in 2007. I arrived to collect my car, he said the issue was fixed, I took it for a drive up the road only for the issue to appear once the engine got hot (It was a coolant leak). He wanted €300 that time but I said not until it was fixed. I ended up bringing it to my current mechanic.

In other news, I collected my car from my mechanic this evening with its new rear turbo, no rattle and ALL the power is back. It's like a completely new car :D

I ****ing hate wiring looms. nothing is what it seems and at this stage it would be handier to wire my own speakers and ignore the cars wiring.

Stop.... I had to rewire my race car from scratch, only for the help of Quazzie from here and Joe Power I'd have probably strangled myself with the wires

IMO labour differs depending on the mechanic and sometimes on how qualified the mechanic is and what kit he uses.

What car is it and what's wrong with it? Give us that info and we can give you an idea of how long it may take.

Is it only a new issue yeah? Sounds like serious turbo lag ( :pac: ) or an ignition coil issue.

If it's the coils it can be diagnosed in a few minutes. With the engine running, each coil is disconnected and if the engine runs worse, the coil is fine. If the engine runs the same, that coil is busted.

If it's turbo related, it's possibly a split boost pipe or something along those lines but a split pipe would make the issue happen all the time.

EDIT: I see George Dalton was posting on your thread. He knows his stuff and he's near Abbeyleix so not far for you to go.

Aye only since Saturday. Feckin thing is a pain in the arse!

The issue seems to lessen the more I drive, but that could be me just getting used to it.

I pmed George earlier actually asking for any mechanic recommednations, didn't realise he was a mechanic! :pac:

    LOL :D

He is a mechanic indeed, and a very good one at that.

You try put the car in test mode not saying it will solve the problem but might give you some idea if fault codes were registered. How to put the car in test mode:

1.-Put the key in the ignition do not turn it
2.-hold down the trip reset usually on the end of the indicator stalk depending on the year of the car.
3.-turn the ignition 2 clicks ie when the ignition lights come on
4.-when test comes up on the odometer let go of the pressed in reset button.

5.-then by pressing the trip reset you will flick through about 16 different screen. Some will test gauges warning lights etc. keep going until you see dtc#01 dtc#02 etc. right down the 4 digit codes after each one and post them up here or google the code with ford dtc library.
At the end of the day this will only show if fault codes were logged and it may be of some help or no help. As mechanical faults might not cause the car to log fault codes. If none comes up then no codes were logged. Hope this is of some help.

Better off to strip the car and rewire it in some cases....

    Cue a French car:
