Watched 101 - 109 last night. Goes into more detail than I've seen in any other video. All on a 4g63 mitsi engine.

They have an electronic oil level measurement sensor that warns you if it goes low. Not a problem. That guy is a bit crazy...

    The demise of the dipstick

It was news to me that dipsticks were on the way out

But how do you know how much oil to put in? Check the dipstick?
Or just randomly pour in an amount of oil and hope it's right?
Only Irish farmers in their 60's can get that one right, they open the bonnet, remove the oilcap and pour in x amount of oil and have done for all their lives without ever reading the dipstick, but the rest of us aren't psychic.

    • Google engine oil needs
    • Ring your vehicle manufacturer and ask
    • Use AutoData
    • Go on boards and ask

Most engines I ever serviced have around +- 4 liters of oil anyway (unless their a bigger engine),

You always have the option to put in less, check console, add as required.
With dipstick, add oil, check level with dipstick, add as required.
    Same process done differently...

Pointless to argue about these! Back to YooToob Videos!

Most of that, er wha? I did not inquire about the average oil capacity of various engines, so nice side story, but irrelevant.
My point is if your car tells you "I'm low on oil!", how do you know how much?
I take it there's some kind of digital read out, or maybe there isn't and you will need diagnostic equipment to see the level?
Is my car down by 200, 300 or maybe even 500 ml? Will it tell me?
Will I now have to go to the main dealer to top up the oil? Will it cost me €50 to do that now?
I'm used to pouring in oil and consult the dipstick to see when it's right.
Will I now have to pour in oil, run around to the dash and see if it's right?
I'd hate to have to run back and forth 10 times, rather than just pull out the dipstick.
As the EGR, DMF, DPF, piezo injector nozzles and electric handbrakes have shown, new and shinier is not always better.

Renault 1.5 DCI engine is the same.

There's a setting in the onboard computer to check it manually before starting the engine. It also has an onboard oil-monitoring system to let you know if the oil quality has dropped.

Don't know about beemers but a merc will tell you to add one litre of oil at next fuel stop.

Just some info on this, the electronic oil level reading BMW are implementing sounds a little odd, but is very simple and made for non-hands-on individuals.

The system simply alerts you to when the car needs 1 litre of oil. Up until that point, the system just shows the level as OK. If you want to top up the oil, you are simply guessing which isn't a great idea.

So they've made it uber-simple. Either your car is fine, or it reports when it needs 1 litre of oil.

    The DREAM!
Those cars sliding, the lights cutting through the tyre smoke... It's a sight to behold.

On the camera, I'd guess a Canon 5D or similar, lens I haven't a clue. Maybe a 10-22mm but it's hard to tell.
