    6'10 here

    Hiya, Devin!

Growing up in our house, there's a bit of wall behind the kitchen door that has never been painted. My whole family's heights, going back at least 35-40 years, are there, with dates. Also various friends and ex-girlfriends are there on the wall too.

Rules are simple: no shoes, heels touching the wall, looking straight ahead, get another person to use a book (or another right angle) to make a pencil mark on the wall level with the top of your head, measure with the 2m-long ruler that lives behind the door. Write name, height and date beside the mark.

Since I stopped growing about 25 years ago, I've been 5'10" - 5'10.5" by that method.

Joined the gym a few years ago - they measured me, said 5'11". I got them to double check. Yep, definitely 5'11". OK, I said, and I've been claiming 5'11" since.

So I can understand someone being wrong (honestly and accidentally) by half an inch or an inch. But anyone who claims two inches over their actual height is either a flat out liar or is deluded.

I've lost count of the number of guys I've met that I look down on but that claim to be 6' tall. They're just sad. (I look down on them in two senses, then! :) )

Well ,the good news OP is that you'll be the first one to know when someone farts.

Well how often do you hear people say they are 5'10 or 5'11? There are a lot of guys 6 foot on the dot for some reason.......

OP maybe the Doctor/Nurse who measured you was wrong?

I've been given two different heights by a doctor before.

Ah sure don't worry, most women seem to count their height in heels, god forbid 5'10 should turn into 5'5 or so! :pac:

OP I know what happened you..some how I saw this on TV and it stuck in my head

Ron Lester , heavy set guy lost a load of weight and now is 2 inches shorter .

"His physical transformation is quite remarkable, he looks like a fit new person. Along with being less blimp-like he has also found that he is shorter; two inches of his height were lost along with fat from the top of his head and the bottoms of his feet. His face is said to be 8 inches narrower, and overall he had 43 pounds of skin removed from his body. How did he do it?"

If you really were as tall as you thought you were, that kick in the guts would now be a kick in the balls.

It's not all doom and gloom.

The same thing happened to me when I went for an assessment at the gym. I thought I was 6'5 but I'm only 6'4! I nearly cried.

I think I'm 6' but I haven't measured since P.E. in leaving cert and that was in metres and cm and I can't remember what the last measurement was.

I'll check this evening if I can find the tape measure. Or maybe I won't.

I'm 6ft2 and a half and I was only the 3rd tallest in our college apartment of 4. The shortest guy was 6ft the ickle baby :pac:

I used to work as a bouncer and social occasions were the worst, short me with a giant league of strongmen bulling into a pub. I felt like the hobbit during the Entsmoot in Lord of the Rings.

So Shorty - what would you like to be when you grow up? :)

Can you not just lie about your height. People do it all the time about their age. And stop beating yourself up ya little squirt.
And if you did get a kick in the stones, you'd be 6" shorter while trying to catch yopur breath. So, cheer up.

    That was kinda my point.

I'm 5f8 so with heels on im just over 6ft. Trying to find a fella over 6ft when your out is surprisingly difficult! My theory is that a lot of mothers smoked when they were pregnant in the late 80's so resulting in smaller fellas round my age. I have nothing against fellas under 6ft but I love wearing heels and no fella likes going with girls who are taller then them

If mothers were smoking it would have had an impact on both the boys and the girls height. Anyway, I think it's girls who generally don't like shorter guys rather than men not liking taller women. A lot of girls are self conscious of it and don't feel feminine if they're taller than the guy. I'm pretty sure the average height for a man in this part of the world is around 5'9'' or 5'10'' so it makes sense that a lot of men you see are not that tall. I think the average height for a man in Holland is 6'1''. Go there if you want to walk among giants.

Disagree there.. in my experience it's women with the hang-up about shorter men.

I personally wouldn't give a toss and I've dated women shorter and taller than me in the past. I'm "only" about 5'7/8 and not much I can do about it short of putting myself on the rack or something so no point worrying about it.
