Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 - Camera problems

Hi.... I've just got the S3 Mini i8190 and I'm having trouble with the camera, I believe its 5mp, the same as my previous phone the Blackberry 9105 Pearl but the image quality is awful compared to it.... I've tried playing around with all the different settings in the camera, scene mode etc but its hopeless, the pictures…

I've tried playing around with all the different settings in the camera, scene mode etc but its hopeless,

the pictures are similar in quality to my duaghters phone with a 2mp camera, am I doing something wrong??

It doesn't hold any changes I make in settings once I exit the camera either,

any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated,

CASE CLOSED:

faulty phone, the Carphone Warehouse swapped it after I showed them the differences in photos taken.....

pretty impressed with the replacement, quality is way better!!
