I'm 5'8, been 5'8 for many years including for the last 8 years yearly work medicals, two years ago a temp nurse (covering for one of the practice nurses) measured me and said "so you're 5'6."
    Me "No".
Her "Well we'll put it down as 5'6 anyway."
Me "No we won't, if I've shrunk that much in the last 12 months I have a serious medical problem and I want a referral"
Her: "Oh if you're going to be difficult I guess I'll check again" *remeasures* *allowed me 5'7*
Every single other time I have been measured I was 5'8 different nurses, doctors etc.
So maybe OP you just got the same nurse as I did that time? Short, blond, chatty? Would have made a serious dent in my BMI too (another thing they report in the medical)

If nobody pulled you up on it or noticed that you weren't 5' 9'' just keep telling people you are, if it comes in conversation. I think lads generally believe they're taller than they actually are.

    I'm 5'2 - I clearly win the thread.

    Your fault, tbh

are only allowed to think you're a half inch taller max. I am 5"9 in the morning...

I'm between 5 11 and 6 foot and half an inch apparently. Depends on the time of day :)

    You're not << 5' 9' >> you're 170 cm.

'Problem' sorted, with the added advantage that you've also arrived in 21st Century Europe. :)

    Or 1700mm.

That should make him feel tall.

What time of day was she measuring you? You start off taller in the morning after a nights sleep and slowly lose about an inch, inch and a half throughout the day.

    I'm 5'1. Fcuk you all. :(

Starting at 5'9" that really would be a kick in the nuts. Time to start investigating that leg-lengthening procedure they're all raving about.

I'd give you some of my height if I could. Wouldn't mind being a few inches shorter :)

Thought that was a myth so i googled it. Stupid bodies.
Yes, it's true! The average height of a person decreases, on average, 15mm over the course of the day. This is equal to about a 1% loss of height from morning to evening.
Why does this occur. The answer is that the intervertebral discs, or spinal discs, are composed largely of water. The discs rest between the spinal bones, or vertabrae. These intervertebral disca are compressed as we stand and walk--it is our own body weight that compresses the intervertebral disc. When you sleep at night, the compressive pressure is relieved, and the discs expand again. While the difference is small, it is a fact!

Men always accentuate their own height. I'm 5'9", I've had my height and weight measured countless times for boxing and it's always been the same. However, many of my friends are bang on the same height as me and will maintain blind (with nothing to back it up) that they are "6 foot" or "five eleven" despite being shorter than me.

It's he height equivalent of using Just for Men or having a comb-over.

    Just stoop?

Being tall isn't great either. You can't fly Ryanair without risking thrombosis and getting beaten up by someone no bigger than a garden gnome is twice as humiliating.

I hope you haven't overestimated the size of anything else by two inches.

As compensation for the loss of height you can now consider a career as a jockey. Let's face it at only 5'6", basketball is off the table.

Trouble is that a guy has to be very light as well to be a jockey.

I always thought I was 5'5 and discovered recently that I'm actually 5'3. Not sure where the first figure came into my head. I was thrilled anyway because it means I'm normal weight, not underweight :D

That's terrible. I hope he didn't take my super-extra-serious suggestion seriously if that's the case. :)

Ah don't worry, I'm sure a strong whiskey will get him throught the trauma :)

I'm 6'1, meh it's not bad. Measuring in inches always causes confusion.

To anyone shorter than me: Puny humans!

To anyone taller than me: The weather is nice actually, it hasn't rain down here yet.

Men under 5 foot 10 inches should be sterilized.

Use poppyseeds. I'm 4864 poppyseeds tall. Sounds better than 2.1 yards...

Old Saxon units of measurement should be revived. They sound cool, and make you feel like a giant! Four poppyseeds in a line. 4 lines in a barleycorn. 4 barleycorns in an inch.
