I hate nightclubs and don't really remember enjoying them past my teens. Hate paying money in to stand in a cramped space juggling my bag and jacket and don't even get me started on the music. Never been for me.

I love nightclubs, but i hate the fact you only get in late at night and know sooner you are in its over. It goes way too fast the time.

12 Euros ( my local disco) way too much for an hour and half.

Not a great fan of nightclubs, but I don't hate them. But find their prices particularly expensive

What I hate about nightclubs lately, (or at least the ones I've been too), is that they often get in these Z-list celebrities to try and draw the crowds. My local club often gets people from Geordie Shore or Tallafornia, and when you go in, all the attention is on them. I find clubs nowadays are all show; very pretentious and full of posers who are more interested in looking good for their facebook photos.

Back in the late 90's early 00's, clubs were so simple. It was just beer, women and music, (good music at that). Now its just too try hard.

As a 21-year old male in 2nd year of university, I can honestly say I have no problem with nightclubs.

I don't drink, and I still enjoy them, I've actually had much better nights the nights I've had no alcohol at all than the seldom time I would have a Bulmers/Fosters/whatever just to try something different.

I enjoy them most when I'm in a big group, of mostly my closest friends. Its especially the case if your in NUI Maynooth because its a student town and there's one club most people go to, my exams are finished next thursday, so I can't wait to shake off all the stress and have some craic with all my mates because I know everyone will be in the roost then.

The music doesn't bother me, I'm into most things, and am generally very tolerant of whatever the DJ decides to play.

Not all clubs bring in big names, but I try and avoid the ones that do.

Maybe I need to go to more expensive clubs and start rethinking my finances, because the few I've been to are rarely more than a fiver.

Mantra? That's the one that's famous for the Z-list celebrities. :D

Music so loud I have to yell, drink which you'd almost need a mortgage to afford, drunk eejits falling about the place ... not my idea of a good time. Never saw the attraction.

Give me a nice bar, good, reasonably priced pints and a few good sounds and I'm happy.

I am 20 year old female and for some reason I have come to realise that I hate nightclubs. It breaks my heart having to pay an entrance fee of 10euros, and only able to afford two cheapest drinks available, not enough to get me drunk enough to enjoy the overly loud music and overcrowding. So I am sober and bored out of my mind, trying to get drunken geezers and creeps to keep away from me in a place that is meant to be "great craic" and I am only 20.
I started off going to pubs in my countryside but disliked them because was too many people I knew, too much gossip and drama because the countryside is where everyone knows everyone, and also I did a lot of my immature, drunken crap in those pubs, so that rep is pretty hard to shake off. So I couldn't wait to go to the nightclubs in town, but after two years of the nightclub scene I never thought I'd see the day where I want to go back to the pub scene and to those particular pubs, the people won't change but at least I wont be totally broke by the end of the night and it is not as crowded, even on a birthday party.

I dunno I feel like a boring auld one for hating nightclubs, is there anyone else my age who feels the same?

    Yes, me.

Back in my crrrrazy student days when I lived in Dublin city fado fado (2001-2004), there were loads of great places to go out and dance. I remember I loved a place called The Globe on Dame Street (could be still there) Remember that place? Would that be classed as a nightclub? When I think of clubs, I don't just think of those massive, souless shitholes but smaller clubs with good DJs playing more selected music. If you actually bother your hole, you can completely avoid the bigger mega clubs and head to those places. You don't go there for talking or even scoring, you just go there to dance! You youngins are so out of touch with the "cool vibe"

I rarely go out and even more rarely go to night clubs, I only go if all my friends are going and is something on, birthday etc. we always have great Craic, but it does annoy me, the music is really bad, I know hardly any of the songs, there is always some eejit walking around trying to bum a smoke, you can't go into the bathrooms without hearing about 6 young ones in one cubicle bitching about other girls and then you are being asked to buy lollipops and other crap when you are just trying to wash your hands.

They often have very little on tap, just alcopops, shots and crap in bottles. Someone always steps on my because I only wear flats, usually someone in heels which means I will be in pain for a few days after.

There is a lot about nightclubs that I dislike but when you are with a decent group of people who are out for some fun it's worth it. Not something I cold do every weekend or even every month to be honest.

I'm the same I'm 19 going 20 in a couple of weeks not too into the nightclub scene too much either. The only reason I go is because no one really does anything else apart from that. I don't mind it too much when I go maybe once a month or so but every week is too much and I don't want all my money gone on drinks. When I do go to clubs I go for the music and the dance and spend time with friends really.

Theres only one real club like that and its the twisted pepper. The underground as well, but its a bit iffy. I used to enjoy the lost society a year ago, but its lost its touch.
What you suggested reminded me of berlin techno scene. Places where you dont need to be out of your head on drink or anything else to have a good time. Sadly most of the clubs in Dublin arent like this.

I love nightclubs :D Ones in Ireland aren't great but can still be good craic, it's the people ya go with not the venue that's important :) Yeah the music is loud but that's when ya take it to the smoking area if ya want an aul chat.

I also love quiet pubs for a few pints though where you can chat properly. Pubs are great for a few drinks or a date or catching up with friends but sometimes it just hits that hour of the night when ya wanna dance til your legs fall off :pac:

Variety is the spice of life and all that. I don't get why most people are one or the other - they will either only do quiet pubs or only nightclubs.

I think I've been to the Twisted Pepper before I moved out of the country again. I know a fella who DJs downstairs in Hogans and he always had great taste in music. I'm sure there's places around if you look. Not venues solely for dancing but places sometimes have nights. I used to like The Gaiety back in the day too. And Whelans.

I'd love to know where the hell all these 19 and 20 year old girls, who preferred a country pub, a walk in the forest and a good book over a dark seedy nightclub, were whenever I was of courting age.:(

what your suggesting is more along the lines of a late bar with a dj.
I love those, because you get decent music as well as good beer and are able to have a chat.

When I look at the club scene in ireland and compare it to the likes of Tresor, berghain and watergate, the likes of that are non-existent in this country. Theres only so much of the village, coppers, the palace etc that one can take. Generally its once a year kinda job.
Now dont get me wrong, coppers etc are great if your in the market, but i left that behind me a few years ago. The only two clubs that you can go to to just dance and have one or two drinks are underground, twisted pepper and occasionally the lost society.

I pretty much couldn't stand nightclubs when I was in school, but then I came to college and I'd be quare fond of them now.

Not a fan of Nightclubs and I in my 22. I prefer to be in a pub with my mate and being able to talk. when I go to nightclubs I usually spent more time in the smoking area even though I don't smoke just because it's the only place you can have a chat.

remember when niteclubs were smoky...really smoky. The smell on clothes the next day.

Last time I was in a club in Ireland, they were playing slow sets every half hour and the Soldiers Song at the end.
I expect its even more manic today, full of poxy students sending endless text messages, techno, and complete inability of getting drunk without someone pointing a camera phone at you.

Most nightclubs in Ireland don't play techno music, they play chart music.

Back in the day I loved them. Pub then nightclub. Now I'm too poor for pub first so it's binge drinking before club and still not numbed enough to deal with the dumbass scummers in the club

Well I confess that I am an auld wan and I haven't been in a nightclub in ages but if there was enough drink onboard and a good crew out with me I'd be partial to shaking my wrinkly old ass at a nightclub. I don't go that often but when I do I have good craic. I'll stop going when I start meeing my oldest son there!

I hate the thought of ever going into a nightclub being intimidated by scumbags.

About 2 years ago, I had met a guy who was about 6ft tall or more at my young niece's birthday party (And I mean she was way way younger than 18 years old). He had mentioned that he would go to "all the clubs" to have a good time in a real skanger kind of way. At the time; he would be aged in his early 30's.

If I was taller & even more older than him; I would say to him get a life, and get an education or a job you sad little man.

So; again; No. Nightclubs are a waste of my time.

Fun? Nightclubs? Fun? Nightclubs? Never saw the connection between the two tbh.

I'm not a dancer or party animal and never was. Give me a nice place with nice people and nice conversation- nothing more pleasant or natural in the world. I'll never understand the wish to go out and get blotto and shake your ass with a bunch of people you think are dicks...

How this passed my eyes ill never know but in any event

Id say so yeah, seeing as I don't need to be in a place full to the neck with people who need to be p*ssed outta their brains just to relax, get the courage to try and chance a girl, or feel in someway fufilled as they have no other social outlet. No i dont need any of that im much happier being a person who doesn't rely on venues and substances to fuel my excitement, romantic interests and social interactions, I have far greater things to do with my time thanks!

Ohh God yeah, I remember those days. You had to claw your way through a cloud of smoke to get to the bar - vision was obscured. Then smelling like an ashtray the following morning... yuk!

Indeed they do which is a pity. Not that I like techno, but trance and electronica is fine in a club. I don't want to be dancing to Rihanna or Justin Bieber.

Night clubs suck, thats why they invented MDMA, E and coke.

That's hard as I am from Carlow, and we really only have two nightclubs, but everyone more or less just goes to The Foundry.

We have always existed, it's just that we go along with this to "fit" in, and not look boring when we want to say "Actually, I hate nightclubs!"
