My door bell just rang...

So what you ask... Read on.

Moved into a new house about 2 weeks ago, happy out and love it, whatever. So few minutes ago I was heading up to bed, turned off the hall light and got about 2-3 steps up and I hear this music, I look back to see where it was coming from and it's coming from the doorbell speaker on the wall. Here is the weird part, while a have a doorbell speaker, I don't have a doorbell, the entire front casing on it including the button was ripped off before I moved in, now all that's left is motherboard type thing and a few wires.

Now I am not the the type to scare easily but my heart started racing when I realised what it was. So can anyone explain how a doorbell speaker with no actual doorbell can make noise?

It's possible the wires in the speaker are picking up radio waves from some local source...

That or it's haunted

This reminds me of a similar thing that happened to a friend of mine. It turns out the house was possessed & he ripped off his own ears in terror.

The doorbell, as you refer to it, is just a switch. The wires have crossed and are setting off the speaker.

It's most likely radio waves interference, usually it's 2FM buzzing away in the background or in some cases the emergency services....

You can usually always hear it in a quiet room with a bad guitar amp powered on.....

Reminds me of a brilliant post here a while ago. Somebody drifting off to sleep listening to the radio when a voice boomed out in the room 'I'm outside the house'. Interference from a taxi company, ughh heart attack inducing. I've heard baby monitors are magnets for interference too.

I was once privy to a wonderful phone conversation that came in over my baby monitor that consisted of some poor exasperated woman explaining to her friend on the phone how her baby wouldn't stop (and I quote) "chewing the nipples off her" while she was feeding!
