Just got the box today and after setting it all up, i can connect to the wifi, but not getting any internet access. Using the old modem/router now to get online.

Should it work out of the box or do i need to do something to get it working?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭grindle

You need to join the network - the box is a new modem, new network, new password. Underneath the box.

Im connected to the new network, but not getting any internet on the laptop, and the youtube app is not working saying video is not available.

Should there be an icon on the display on the front of the horizon box like the phone icon

Have to say, that is the exact opposite of my experience.

Courier dropped off the new box, didn't ask for the old box or router so they're still there if needed.

The new box is streets ahead of the old one, they are on different planets in terms of capabilities, set-up was a breeze and it's working perfectly since it arrived for TV, broadband and phone.

Maybe you just got a dud box?

Old box is disabled after you plug the horizon one in.
Back to crap wireless now, better than the Cisco, but no where near as good as the cheap wireless router I had to buy to use with the Cisco. Location probably plays a part this time, but not happy that you can't put it in bridge mode.

When the installer installed my Horizon box last week, it was set as the main modem/router in my living room. However the wifi signal was not strong enough to go around the house and could not be linked to other rooms as the ethernet cables all merge downstairs in a cupboard. So the installer connected the Netgear WNR2000's WAN port to a LAN port on the Horizon box by a ethernet cable. This means we have two different wifi networks now. The one being sent from the Horizon box upstairs, and the one being sent from the Netgear router downstairs. So the Horizon box has an IP range of 192.168.192.1 onwards and the Netgear router has 192.168.1.1 onwards. Both work fine.

However, I would like to make these part of one single network for the following
    Séamus

Not a Netgear but what I did on a tp-link was connect from Horizon box to a LAN port not WAN and disabled DCHP on the tp-link. Apparently that makes it function as a switch and devices get their IP address from the Horizon box. Disabled wifi on horizon as well.

A switch will always work with any broadband connected by lan
but I'm curious does the wireless work on TP-link as well and connect by wireless

Failed to record revenge last night, was fine for 16 minutes, the remainder of the recording was garbled, like old scrambled tv.

I actually want to return the box, the epg is infuriating. What's worse, these complaints are well documented in Netherlands and Switzerland and nothing has changed in months, so I'm kind of losing hope that anything will improve. :( I hope I'm proved wrong as it has bags of potential

I thought they disable it from there end even if they don't take it
and if you want to keep the Cisco they charge you for it

I still have my Cisco router and wasn't charged for it.. I told them I wanted to keep it as I have it set to bridge to an Asus router that has 2x2tb HD's connected to to it for backups/media streaming... They left it alone and installed the horizon box separately ... I have the horizon box connected to my existing home network via wifi..

There were major problems with the Horizon box and Philips TV's, the screens would go blank for a second a couple of times an hour, or go green or pink. this hasn't happened to my tv today so I would say that update has something to do with that. Thank god! was just about to send it back.

I read there's major new software called h2 due in July, hopefully that fixes everything

    . ERROE 1090,
Does anyone have a direct contact number for Horizon Support?

This install is starting to turn into a complete pain...

Had the box installed Tuesday morning, early doors. Tech was here for an hour or so. But never got past the installation screen which displays a '1090' error code and tells you to contact customer care.

He said it would come on in a couple of hours or so - they just had to sort something in the office - said grand - went to work.

It's still displaying the same error code. I've rang UPC multiple times but basically keep getting fobbed off - That should be sorted this evening/ morning/ afternoon etc. etc.

So basically I've had no TV since Tuesday morning (and they want to charge me an activation fee too - ha!)

I'm so glad I kept my existing modem. Otherwise I'd be sitting here playing board games and listing to the radio.

Hi, I HAVE the same problem , ERROR 1090,did you get it sorted.

    THANKS GLENN

UPC Netherlands has announced a major update for its Horizon set-top box. The software update, called H2, is expected to provide a faster, more user-friendly and clearer interface, as well as improve the stability of the box. In early June customers will receive more details on when they can expect the update, and the new software will be rolled out automatically. By the end of July, customers also will receive a new remote control for the box free. This features new hot keys for features used often, such as the programme guide, on demand and programme information. It also has a qwerty keypad. The Horizon box has suffered from numerous complaints from consumers since first rolling out late last year. UPC has promised improvements under an agreement with consumer groups. The cable operator last reported 145,000 customers for the Horizon box.

I wonder if H2 is the software that we have on our boxes.... hope not! If this remote is the new one they could do with a few more updates to it. Programable shortcuts would be handy, be nice to be able to press a single button for search or for apps etc. instead of going through the menus

This is more of a networking question probably, but I switched over to using Horizon as my router this evening and all went well except I can't access any of my devices using their hostnames. Any ideas? Is this to do with the domain name on the LAN in the settings? It defaults to "net".

Came out this morning and went to switch on my Horizon Box. It wouldn't switch on, the was no display and where the Blue light is usually on underneath, it was showing as Red. Had to reset the box to switch on. Anybody else ever get this?

Yes, several times, only solution was to switch off/on and wait for startup.

It is possible to remote record using the mobile website m.tv-guide.upc.ie (not the same thing, I know, but since I don't have an ipad, ipod or iphone, it's all I've got).

when i turn off my laptop or even close the lid when i reopen i've lost connection to the wireless. once i re-enter the password everything is perfect again but it is a pain. they are sending out an engineer tomorrow to check it out so hopefully they can sort it. this never happened on my previous TP link router.

Does anyone else have this issue?

That's your laptop not waking up from standby correctly, nothing to do with your Horizon setup.

Every laptop will lose the Wifi connection when you close the lid or shut it off, what may have changed is the laptop isn't seamlessly reconnecting on wake/boot-up. Can you check the network settings on your laptop to see if the Wifi network password is saved?

It sounds to me like when you joined the new Wifi network (on the Horizon box), you might not have selected the option to save your password - assuming there is such an option.

My broadband still hasn't been provisioned yet, however my 30 Mb is better than ever in terms of wi-fi getting v close to 30 mb on wi-fi. Wonder will that still happen when it jumps to 100?

No, it happens with mine too.

MacBook worked fine with my old router, changed to horizon now whenever it wakes up I have to reconnect. Very annoying. Other devices work fine though.

Hrm ok that is kinda weird then. Tried changing the SSID on the Horizon box itself? I hear that's been causing hassle with older wifi cards like the ones on the Xbox 360 for instance.

You need to ring the self install helpline, they fixed this for me in about an hour. Essentially your account is incorrectly configured at the back end so when the box tries to initialise your connection etc on first run it gets told to PFO by the UPC servers.
