Lurtz and Ormond Lad you are both kinda right. NZ do support a lot more teams and sure you probably could regard Rugby as the national sport but to say that it doesn't have the competition is a mistake.
Rugby League is huge at home as is Soccer now, but also hockey and indoor basketball and recently we have also had kids being signed by the New York red socks in Baseball and other kids being offered basketball scholarships to unis in the USA.
rugby League is a huge drain on the resources of rugby so to say that there is no competition in sports in NZ is not entirely true.
I think its more to do with the sponsorship that the NZRFU can get due to the successes of their rugby teams. And these successes can only happen with support from the NZRFU.

I like the way NZ has 14 academies, gives so many lads chances

It's a smart move. There are too many talented back rows in Leinster. Looking outside the box and the chance of 1b with Corinthians or Buccs. He'll be capped by Connacht Eagles next year if it is true. I know that the idea of going outside Leinster was tempting but I thought Munster would have been his choice. Sean O'Brien having a word in his ear.

would be very disappointed if this is true , munster acedemy needs talented backs coming through and we have already missed out on parata.

yeah I think its a smart move. Heard last year he was considering moving there to play 20s for the summer instead of leinster 18s. great chance to play eagles and even push for higher honours if he performs

Rory is a great player, it would be a great coup for the Connacht academy if he joined them.

would be disappointing to see Moloney go to Connacht, but I couldn't blame him if he did.

Leinster had ridiculous depth in the backrow and it shows no signs of not continuing.

It would be a good move for him. There's an outstanding queue of talent in the back-row at Leinster, and I would assume he would be in good company in Connacht.

even with all the depth I still fell he's more than good enough to make it as leinster. nonetheless connacht will afford him a great opportunity for high level exposure, especially with conneely and heffernan moving up and gardiner leaving

Very talented player, he will do well wherever he goes.

I am sure that a few of the lads must have more than one option when it comes down to choice of academies. Lots of big decisions to make. College or University can play a big part as well, and so it should.

yeah, college would be my priority then decide what to do.

Most of the Leinster lads end up going to college in Dublin anyway so it's usually not a concern.I had heard Moloney had a full scholarship for UCD.

Which is why the Greg O'Shea rumor is very interesting.

yeah he didnt compete in Munster or Irish indoors this year and I think it was mentioned in papers after senior cup final that he was concentrating on rugby now as he couldn't keep both up in the long term

rumor about O'Shea being reported as fact now on munsterfans.

Moloney, O'Brien, Walsh and Parata are big signings. If we got Mark Roche signed on we would be laughing.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 373 ✭✭Ruck Inspector

    Walsh?

Roche? no one else seems that interested in him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,257 ✭✭✭Hagz

That's a serious academy bunch alright.

    Jacob Walshe.

Well from what I've heard of his time at Lansdowne he deserves a spot

Your mixing him up with scrum half Marcus Walsh who got Connacht academy last year and played with Lansdowne this season

Jacob Walshe is a good pickup alright,

Consider me very skeptical on Mark Roche.
