Does anyone know any good road bike routes in the midwest (galway-clare area)? I'm talking scenic, smooth roads and hard shoulder preferably.

Ennis to Gort, old road, so Ennis - Barefield- Crusheen etc.. Not used much by traffic and done up a bit when the Ennis to Gort motorway was built

    not exactly scenic though.

think you might have to prioritize op. ulinbac is right about that road being a decent road, but not much to see. If it were me, i'd forego the decent road and head down the coast, ballyvaughan, down the r477 along the coast, over the cliffs of moher (the road, not the edge :) ).

might not be the widest, flattest road but the scenery on a god say would more than make up for it. for example, just picking one spot at absolute random

i guess it comes down to what is most important. i cycled the route i mentioned in reverse lately as part of the stephen roche atlantic challenge, the wind that day made it very tough, but there is no doubting it's a savage cycle. roads may not be what you are looking for though

I did oranmore to gort to loughrea to oranmore last summer. Was alright. Hard shoulder most of way to gort, quiet road to loughrea, then hard shoulder on old n6 back towards Galway. Think it was about 90km
