Does anyone else have issues with the logos not matching the actual channel that your watching? So if Im changing up through the stations Sky1 shows as Sky1 and Sky2 is Sky2 and then BBC1 is Sky2 and BBC2 is Sky1?

I had this problem I just restarted the box and it hasn't happened since.

Are you able to watch a recording while it is still recording? had issue trying to do so with a show last night. I reg start watching shows 20 mins in so I can skip the ads, this would pain me, the change needed to my channel surfing and the fact I can't see what is recording presently easy makes some tasks annoying.

Has anybody else had the problem of the box recording something in standby and continuing to record, stuck in standby until you hard reset?

Happened twice since I got the box on thursday, was away on saturday and it recorded a single 1300 minute recording instead of modern family.

Me too. Wouldn't turn back on while recording so had to turn back switch on and off. then had to set up my wireless network again. Hasn't happened since.

Also twonky working v well for me. I downloaded twonky server and I can fast forward and rewind streaming from my PC.

Also sussed out how to view what else is on on other channels whithout going to guide. press menu -- now and next click ok then use your up or down arows to browse. It replaces the old press OK and browse.

Getting my Horizon box today and have a few queries if any one can help.

Currently my modem is in a central location in the house where I have CAT6 cable running to various points around the house with the PC and TV hard wired. Also monitored alarm point have all been cabled to connect to the existing modem.
The TV cable is at the end of the extension where the Horizon box will be replacing the existing DVR box and modem.
I have two CAT6 cables running to the TV point in the extension at the end of the house. Using 1 of these cables is there a device that I can use to replace the exiting modem as like a junction box, continue to be able utilise the CAT6 cabling around the house and continue to use my existing cabling for monitoring the alarm.
I don't want to start running new cabling as all existing cables are hidden.

    Thanks
    Brian

You may be able to put the horizon box where the modem is and then use HDMI Ethernet converters to bring the signal back to the TV over the cat6

The remote doesn't require line if sight, I'm not sure of the range but it may work .

    Disaster since install on Saturday.

    - Install took 30 mins but still required me to keep 5 hours of my Saturday free.
    - I asked for 100mb broadband but the fastest over wifi, for the time it worked, was 30mb.
    - Lost all broadband and phone services less than 24 hours after installation.
    - Lost all TV services less than 48 hours after installation.

    So far... Epic Fail.

Happens to me, when I do the quick channel scroll option (hold the up or down directional buttons for a few seconds). Seems to scramble the channel logos. Goes away after a while.

Strange. Wouldn't work for me with Twonky, while the same files could be paused/FF/Rew. using serviio. Must be content/format-specific.

I get around 45mb over wi-fi, but get 105mb over cable on a 100mb line. :D Wi-fi will always be a lot slower, due to lots of technical reasons.

It really depends. My wi-fi signal would be poor enough, living with apartments all around broadcasting wi-fi signals, and lots of dect phones too. That, combined with lots of other interference will degrade the wi-fi speeds. That's why I went and cabled my whole apt.

My wifi reception was always just average, and my speeds across it were ok. But, with cable, I am getting the full speed for my laptop and desktop.

On a good day, with wifi, I can get 67mb. On a normal day, I am hitting around the 45-50mb mark. On a bad day, I get 20mb or so, with a few dropped connections.

But, with cable, I get a constant high result.

Everyone's results will depend on their own circumstances, but more often than not, you will get a poorer speed across the wifi.

On the old 11g wireless card built into my 5 year old laptop, I get 22mb from my 100mb connection (but an impressive 10mb upload). The other laptops in the house get around 40-65mb over wifi). Sometimes the old hardware just can't keep up with the internet bandwidth.

    Hi All,

received box saturday (guy who delivered said he didnt want the old box, even though upc said to have both box and modem ready)

having same probs as some here / no internet access / few channels not working (sports so OH is not impressed) / and no phone.
4th phone call made there, as was told on Saturday they would have it fixed in a hour or so. So I will wait in hope.

Anyway aside from that, I love the look of the box, and the menus. The remote is much easier to use (as old remotes for me seemed to lag when I pressed buttom). However navigation is a pain, especially for just wanting to see what is on different channels. Too much info maybe?
Cant comment on the apps etc as no internet connection.

Also, me not being very techie, can someone let me know if this is my TV problem / Box problem / HD
I have changed nothing only the box, but if there is white in the picture, lets say someone wearing white teeshirt, this is showing as Very Glary / Ghostly some might say. Is there settings that I should change?

What we've seen of it looks impressive, technology wise and UPC are to be commended for looking at improving the user experience (which has never been their strong point). The problem is that content is king - as Mike Fries aluded to in the linked article: "we have a great pipe and we provide all the good stuff, thanks to the good relationships with the content providers".

Now UPC in Ireland have a particular problem with content that UPC's operations on the continent don't have. This is the fact that their single biggest (by far) provider of content is also their main competitor. That's a constant problem for UPC Ireland and while it hasn't been a major issue until recently, the denying of Sky Atlantic and Sky Sports F1 to UPC means that it looks like Sky are going to pay more hardball with content provision. Add to this the wierd situation where UPC's own content wing provides its channels in Ireland exclusively through Sky and it just makes the situation worse. UPC can come up with all the great technology they like, but if they don't have content it won't be worth anything to them.
I think it's half and half.
UPC provide far superior broadband, ESPECIALLY compared to Sky.

Was due to get the box installed tomorrow. Call earlier today saying they are having supply issues and it won't be done till next week.

Not too worried tbh, another week of reading this forum, seeing what the issues are may lead me to chance my mind.

I think a big issue is the fact that when you restart the box your broadband goes offline.
I know the existing box I have has to be restarted a couple of times a week and from what I have seen here having to restart the box seems to be commonplace.

Are people with the Horizon box able to see the Caller ID with incoming phone calls?

My box seems to be screening out the caller ID as it worked with the old Cisco router but now every call comes up as 'unknown', including when I call from my own mobile which I know is definitely sending caller ID. Called UPC on Friday and a guy worked on it for about 30 minutes but I eventually had to give up as I was going out and forgot to ask for a ticket number so I'll probably have to start all over again tomorrow!

Can I set up my spare HD+ Box in another room ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭nakano3153

I called self-install tech support and they confirmed that the "parental controls" are not yet functional (despite what is reported in the web interface). Apparently the list of attached clients is also to be disregarded at the moment. I should have asked them does the same apply to the Firewall settings (which were off by default).

It's not spare, it has to be collected/returned. The card in it will most likely be deactivated once they activate your Horizon box, since the card is not needed.

Unless you pay the €5 per month for multiroom.

Was functional for me last night, some film on network 2 required a PIN as it was 18s

I was referring to the internet parental controls, not the TV... I just wanted to let people know that for me at least (as a self-install) the web interface to the router is not fully functional. They said it was still under development. Can't really complain as it is a trial after all. However this lack of parental controls is an issue for me.

Got the box installed last week absolute dire interface, hangs about 5-6 times a day, phone working on and off, slow channel changes. If this is what UPC hope to compete Sky with they need a serious rethink. Idea is great product needs a lot of work. UPC collecting it this week.
