A lot of sports could learn from this, fining umpires because they don't apply the rules correctly - would scare the sh1t out of soccer referees.

On a separate note what about the O's? Seem to be the real deal this year.

    Don't jinx it!

Great comeback last night and yet another extra innings win :) The team does seem to have something about them in fairness and the record is certainly legit.

Good win for the Mets last night, Baxter with a walk of single in the 9th to win the game

I take it you're not watching today's fiasco of a performance?

I know most of us hate the unwritten rules of baseball but another good example of it just happened in the Mets v Pirates game. Last night, when down 7-1 late in the game, Jordany Valdespin hit a home run and tosses his bat like he hit a walk off home run in the playoffs. Today, when he enters the game as a pinch hitter, he gets drilled. You've gotta laugh though....

I was wondering what that was about! I guess the rain cant come quick enough before the bullpen give up anymore runs. At least ye have Harvey going tommorrow...

But after tmw's game, they have to go to St. Louis who last night had a near perfect game and today Wainwright has a no-no going through 7. And the Mets have a Triple-A line up. Time to turn off the internet for about a week!

EDIT - Ah well, there goes the no-hitter. Maybe the Mets might get someone to first base in their series.

EDIT 2 - My maths aren't great so I could be a bit out but between the second batter in the first inning Friday and the eight inning yesterday, the Cardinals no-hit 49 batters in a row.

Just been reading the Twitter and the blog posts about this and the way they're going on, you'd swear it was a given that he's going to throw either a no-hitter or a complete game shut out every time he starts. Talk about setting him up for a fall. He's been great so far but at some stage he's not going to have his stuff and is going to get hit around the place. I just hope he doesn't feel the pressure of the whole franchise being on his shoulders.

He isn't getting much help from his fellow starters. Compare that to the rotation Shelby Miller finds himself in, none of the Cards starters have an ERA north of 3. No wonder they could afford to let Lohse go and absorb the loss of Carp. They always seem to have great starting pitching.

That's the problem. It's Harvey and that's it. There is no else performing with the ball and only Buck offensively has done anything of worth and he's cooled off a bit now too. So he's basically holding up the whole franchise. At least when Wheeler comes up he can share the limelight with someone else but until then he's got the weight of the whole franchise on his 24 year old shoulders.

Anyway, let's see what he has today. We're about to go......

As I said earlier, Harvey was going to come back to earth at some stage. I was just hoping it wasn't going to be today. But unfortunately it is. He looks very ragged up there and is probably lucky he's only given up 2 runs through 4. And as usual he's getting no run support.

Just one needs to catch the ball not two.

I thought this was an excellent read

Breaks down Byrce Harper's swing and how he developed it through thousands of hours of practice with his father.

    Interesting, that's all :)

Watching the games this season I wonder do some of the mets players understand the concept of baseball.

They've made every journeyman pitcher they've faced on this home stand look like Cy Young. They're facing some bloke today who on average goes about 4-5 innings per game yet he's retired 11 in a down now. Most only on 2-3 pitches each. I really like Terry Collins as a bloke and its not his fault that the roster's so bad but if he can't get anything out of them, they really need to be thinking of getting rid of him.

So what's the over/under on Mets runs for their 4 game series against St. Louis? They've scored only either 2 or 3 in every game on the current hone stand and it was hardly against the best pitching in the league whereas the Cards are giving up nothing.

Most people would see the game on Tuesday against the guy making his MLB debut as a chance to score a few but the Mets always struggle against guys making their first start or early in their careers. It's going to be a long week....

The Chicago Cubs winning run today is well worth watching. A double steal of 2nd and 3rd, a wild throw from the catcher goes into the outfield and Soriano strolls home.

Snapped this shot yesterday and I was amazed when I looked at it last night, this was Donald Lutz's HR, but he had fully rotated before the ball got there, his HR was all wrist.

Off the bat.....not much the catcher can do about it.....but rules are rules, it's a live ball.

Cool shot Ollie. You must have had great seats. How often do you get to a game?

We have a 13 game ticket plan.....every saturday home game they play.

We exchanged our tickets from Saturday for yesterday's game so we could celebrate mothers day at the game.

I don't think playing Rick Ankiel is going to help those who bet on the overs :P

Oh my God. I thought you were joking when I read that. Now I find out not only have they signed him but he's playing center field tonight.

So the Blue Jay's didn't work out. (Might be a slight bit premature saying that, but everyone expected them to run away with the AL East.) Surprise, surprise. Personally, I'm delighted that a team just thrown together doesn't automatically storm to a championship.

    Is it October already?

Long, long way to go yet. ;)

    Only saw this now :-)

I know, I know. Obviously there is a long time left. It just frustrated me how many people predicted that the Blue Jays were this complete team that would storm to the AL East, while the Yankees had no chance what-so-ever.

On another note: Going to Yankees-Mariners tonight. Good matchup for it. Sabathia vs Felix Hernandez.

    ??

In the 2013 predictions thread here more people picked the Rays for the AL east than Jays. I had Yankees level with Jays in wins

Mets Cardinals tonight , missed last nights game , just as well I didn`t stay up for it , 6.5 games behind at the moment , going to be a long season.

Do you listen to Mike Francesa at all? A couple of his podcasts from yesterday are worth a listen. In the first one he goes off on a rant about how bad the Mets are and how wrong they were for not sticking up for Valdespin the other night, even if they think he's jerk. The second one is an interview with Sandy Alderson and he goes fairly hard on him and to be honest, Sandy didn't have too many answers to make you feel positive for the rest of the season.

Francesa is a bit of an acquired taste as he can be a bit of an arse at times and never accepts when he's wrong but if want a laugh, search 'Mike Francesa rant on the NY Mets 8/23/12'. It's priceless.

Interesting stat from SI. Since the Mets drafted Dwight Gooden, they've drafted 766 pitchers but only 33 have won a game as a Met.

I think Alderson did well in the Dickey trade to get pieces for the future. Yes, the Ankiel signing is strange considering he wasn't good enough for the Astros, maybe they are thinking of turning him back into a pitcher to take a spot in the rotation behind Harvey :)

Speaking of bad GMs, Dipoto's the trade of Jean Segura for 3 months of months of Zach Greinke doesn't look too smart now considering how bad the Angels have been this season. How they could use a guy like that now!
