St Attracta Road, Cabra - is this area ok?

Hi all,

On a 6 month househunt and may have found the perfect house. Only problem is that I am not sure about the street. I have driven up here a couple of times and seems quiet enough but when I chatted to one of the neighbours they told me that there had been 10 burglaries on the street in the last year and that one end of the street was worse than the other!

I am really confused now and would greatly appreciate the infinite wisdom and advice of the community here to help me in my decision!

I am not looking for a white picket fence, stepford wives kind of existence but I do want to know if I am going to be roused from well-earned sleep every night by garda cars and/or rowdy yoof.

Does anyone have first-hand experience of living here?

It's a very dodgy area, one of the houses on it has bullet holes in the front door. I'm sure there's a lot of decent people there too, but there are a lot of scum living there too.

In the interest of fairness is there anyone that has any positive experiences of the area

It is not flying bullets bad but there is a fairly antisocial teenage problem in the area.
Particularily against new people to the area
Egging houses breaking windows etc
Although this has been a lot quiter in the last two years it is still prevalent

SA was been bought over by new families before the property crash so you have a mixture of social housing and younger upwardly mobile families.
If you get a decent price I would still consider as I feel you have good amenities in the area and it is very central to town.

Visit it at night a couple of times and see if you like it! It might look lovely during the day but at night things can change.
I'd also walk around the area at night and maybe visit a few of the local pubs. The locals in the pub will give you some bit of an insight into the kind off community that's there.
At the end of the day if you buy there, it's going to be your home for the considerable future, so if you don't like everything or the vast majority things about the place there's little point in buying it.

Local pubs ? Like fassaugh house where there was a murder recently, or cabra house- the scene of another murder not 6 months ago. I wouldn't drink in any local around that area tbh

That's why I mentioned local pubs.
If I wasn't happy going out in the area, I certainly wouldn't be happy living in the area.

Im from the area and have family on that road so personally it wouldnt bother me. So for anyone else? Hell no. One of the maddest parts of Cabra traditionally.

General feedback seems to be that if you are from the area or if you are known then you are ok. 'Blow-ins' frequently seem to be targeted unfortunately.

Given that this is the general consensus (both on and off Boards) we have decided to give it a miss. Such a shame because I loved the house :mad:

The area is ok.....like everywhere else theres a bad element.I would rate the area higher than most north inner city places.Look around the Iona road area for a house.....not that far from cabra...nice area

Iona Road? Seriously?
If the OP is looking at buying a house in Cabra, I very much doubt Iona Road in his price range.
