A pub and a nightclub are two distinctly different nights out and it will depend on your mood and what sort of night you want as to where you go.

You don't go to a nightclub if you want to chat or sit in the corner looking at everyone. That's not what nightclubs are for and more fool anyone who pays in to a club if that's all they want to do.

No, don't worry. I've always hated them, from the first time I set foot in one.

I always liked clubs myself and still do, I end up going to a club regularly enough.

When drunk and not suffering a hangover, I can enjoy nightclubs. The peer pressure surrounding them can ruin it a bit.

Unless you like chart music, then they are great!

Yeah fair enough, but the OP appears not to :P

I could never enjoy a chart club, and I've been to loads. Still love clubbing though, I've had amazing nights in places like the TP or Kennedy's.

OP should branch out and try new clubbing experiences

    Your logic here is questionable...

I don't drink and would quite happily go out several times a week. I enjoy it, the dancing, the socialising, the laughing at drunk people... especially the laughing at drunk people. Nobody knows you're not drunk (except your friends), so you can act exactly as you want to. It's a very cheap night for me too, couple euro for a taxi and a fiver (if not free) in. Sorted!

If a girl in a mini-skirt is grinding her ass against my crotch on the dancefloor I couldnt give a toss what music is playing.

I disagree, it's a lot better when a girl grinds up on you to jungle/D&B or some grooving house or techno than it is with Drake or some sh1te tbh :pac:

That's only an added bonus though. Besides my mind would be elsewhere :)

Chill out in a club???? are you for real.

There's no need to be rude about it. Of course I'm for real. Different people have different ways of relaxing is all, and I find being surrounded by the anonymity of the club atmosphere relaxes me. I don't normally like crowds, but something about the darkness and the ear bursting volume of the music tends to calm my mind and helps me to relax while I organise things in my head. My wife does meditation and yoga to chill out and relax, I go to the club; different strokes for different folks, yknow?

They are packed, too warm and too loud. It's one of the most stressful places I can think of going to. If I want to chill out I go to a pub.

Yeah see all the things you hate, are all the things I love, which is why when I've had an incredibly stressful week, I like to go out- not to get shìt faced or score, but just to take a break from having my mind racing at a thousand thoughts a minute. I sometimes go to the pub beforehand for one or two, but there's never a newspaper to read so I'll watch whatever's on tv, then head into the club.

Any time I go to a night club my voice is gone the next day from shouting trying to talk to people and my ears ringing from the stupid volume the music is up at.

I get that, I do, but in the 20 years I've been going to clubs, and even before the smoking ban was introduced (that's one upside of the ban- smoking areas allow for a quiet chat), I never felt the need to shout in the club, I just let people lean in closer to hear what they're saying (which would be abnormal for me as I'm normally very conscious of my personal space!).

I avoid clubs and haven't been to one now in 3 years and I'm 27. I never liked going to them and only did because you had to type of thing but now I don't care anymore.

    Late bars all the way.

Different strokes for different folks is all.

I just love going out to nightclubs - just to see all those sexy scantily clad ladies shaking what they've got to the beat of the music. Beats the pub anytime!

I won't generalise by saying I like or dislike clubs. Some I like and some I don't like. It depends on the specific club and atmosphere that night as to whether I will like that specific club.

I swear the hangover the next day isn't from the drink but from the damn nightclub!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,157 ✭✭✭keithclancy

Depends on the night club ... if its full of skangers then its sh1te ... if its a good crowd and the focus isn't on getting locked then its usually good.

There are some good night clubs in Berlin for example, although the majority of nightclubs in ireland are rubbish.

I am 20 year old female and for some reason I have come to realise that I hate nightclubs. It breaks my heart having to pay an entrance fee of 10euros, and only able to afford two cheapest drinks available, not enough to get me drunk enough to enjoy the overly loud music and overcrowding. So I am sober and bored out of my mind, trying to get drunken geezers and creeps to keep away from me in a place that is meant to be "great craic" and I am only 20.
I started off going to pubs in my countryside but disliked them because was too many people I knew, too much gossip and drama because the countryside is where everyone knows everyone, and also I did a lot of my immature, drunken crap in those pubs, so that rep is pretty hard to shake off. So I couldn't wait to go to the nightclubs in town, but after two years of the nightclub scene I never thought I'd see the day where I want to go back to the pub scene and to those particular pubs, the people won't change but at least I wont be totally broke by the end of the night and it is not as crowded, even on a birthday party.

I dunno I feel like a boring auld one for hating nightclubs, is there anyone else my age who feels the same?

Id agree with you to be honest. I think Ireland needs to change its social habits. The nightclub scene is nothing more than a sleazy meat market. There needs to be more alternatives for people to actually interact with each other and treat each other as human beings and that doesn't use alcohol as a social crutch.

I only enjoy nightclubs anymore when I've had a good day, have loads of energy, people haven't pissed me off that day, am drunk but still can function and the pre nightclub experience was class...oh and I have to have at least two people with me for most of the night. Too often the people I'm out with get lost really quickly and for no actual real reason. But yeah I'm kinda OCD about this whole thing. If I'm not in the right way I'll have a crap night without fail and will get really angry and weird...and drunk. As far as nightclubs in general, I think they're grand but hey I'm 18. The music is too loud alright and it is so hard to have a proper conversation with anyone nevermind when trying to pull. I like the whole buzz there eventhough there are a breed of scummy lads in there with no manners who take up everywhere and get thick when you want to pass. Sad f*ckers don't do a thing in there except hit people with their wild limbs and drink pints.

Try telling that to the people I know who keep trying to have a chat (or shout) about stuff while your in the club and you feel like saying "I CAN'T BLOODY WELL HEAR YOU! Why are we here if you wanna have a chat?"

This article for me perfectly sums up my opinion on nightclubs.

To all those who have lamented on the shoddy quality of nightclubs in Dublin spare a thought for people down the country who have very little choice in where they go if they are cajoled into going out by their friends. I don't like going to nightclubs primarily because not only are you getting ripped off but it feels like groundhog day. The same music order, the same people standing in the same areas of the club, the same conversations, the same people starting rows etc.
