They'd probably be fine with it. I'd say they'd even come out to support us!

Why would i take pride in something i have no control over? That would be like me being proud of having blue eyes

Why should anyone have a pride parade then?
    Why not a handicapped parade?

Mothers Pride Day...? cost too much bread I suspect

I'd support a Sunday Morning Fear & Shame Parade, it could fill the void that not going to mass has left for many hungover people.

Because you have never been punched in the face out side a Blue Eyed Bar for having blue eyes.

Because you have never been jailed for having blue eyes.

Because you have never been beaten to death in Fairview Park for having blue eyes.

Because you haven't been slagged to till you are driven to suicide because you have blue eyes.

Anyway Pride is for all. Come celebrate diversity. Coz if we all had blue eyes, we might all be twats.

I got slated by a gay poster on Boards once for saying I was proud to be hetrosexual.

He didn't seem to understand that straight people can be proud of being straight if they want to be.

He gave me the impression the word 'pride' was the preserve of gay people.

They have monopolised it for themselves and the rest of us can jump.

    White heterosexual male pride day.

Can you imagine how that'd go down? Especially on boards.

I've often said in work that white heterosexual males have the worst of everything. Cant be racist against a white person, or sexist against a man, or sexist (or whatever it is) against straights. We just have to take whatever life throws at us adn cant complain. I'm in, lets have this parade.

Yes thank you, i do understand the concept. Just saying, it wouldn't be something i would personally buy into. Same as many in the gay community dont engage with the pride thing and find it quite naff.

But being straight is the socially accepted norm. Hence the reason for Gay Pride marches and so forth... it's an attempt for those groups to attain social acceptance and equality.

The idea of a straight-pride event is completely stupid and only ever trotted out by those who refuse to acknowledge that gay people are treated differently by society.

This is so obvious I don't why it even has to be said.

If this was a LBGT thread and the roles reversed you'd be reported and banned by now.

Straight or gay, we all have at least a little straight in us!

I give gay pride a lot of stick cos I think it's stupid to be proud of your sexual orientation, and I'm not a fan of OTT flamboyant gay stereotypes (although people are, of course, allowed to be as flamboyant as they like, regardless of sexual orientation - it's just a trait I dislike) that seem to be rampant in the parades. However, that said, I'm going to actually attend properly this year and see if I can enjoy it :pac:

PS I am not homophobic or racist!

    are you sure:D

there is no need for a pride day for a group which behaves in the way which is perceived as the norm

if all groups were equal then we could all have our pride days and I would celebrate my straightness with you

because some people think like this
(terry was replying to someone calling the thread stupid)

Ahh I think they're great craic, more of a carnival atmosphere than the usual pervasive downtrodden negativity that some LGBT people have about themselves. I've always suggested they take the chips off their shoulders and let loose for a bit.

My wife does an awful facepalm though when I really get into the swing of things! :D

Hang on, we can't dismiss the idea out of hand until we've discussed what the flag would be.
I mean if we come up with a stupendous flag then everybody would want to be in our march, even the gay folk.
    Something beige...and plain.
Or a picture of a room with no closet in it.

Who the hell has a closet anyway? It was all wardrobes when I were a lad.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Speaking as a straight white Irish man, when I look in the mirror,

    I don't see a straight man
    I don't see a white man
I don't see an Irish man
In fact I don't even 'see' a man.

    All I see is myself.

Because I have been fortunate enough never to have been marginalised in society my self-identity doesn't reflect these aspects.

I would march with my straight brothers for their right to be fabulous too!

I half agree with what you're saying but isn't it some what ironic that they want to be just like everybody else yet feel the need to highlight their difference by having a day dedicated to it?
