Yep that's it. 233 is only back in service a few weeks after a major generator failure last September while working an Enterprise service. It required a 6 month overhaul after that.

Not really as all the ones left will work Mk4s and DD stock more often than freight.

The 071s are finished from revenue passenger work with the withdrawal of the Mk3s so they are in freight livery.

If any 201s were to get the freight livery they are 201-205 and 210-214 as their passenger days are over too even if they were still in service.

why are they in a bad way?

Yep, basically stripped of parts as needed and left to rot in Inchicore.

225 is badly damaged after hitting a large tractor on a level crossing. IE are not even bothering to repair it because of the amount of work needed to fix it and they feel they have enough 201s for the time being.

The IE way! gone are the days they could get over 40 years service out of locos!

It's the railcar revolution, started 6 years ago.

It's going to be a sad day when the only locos left on this island will be a handful of 201s hauling whatever is left to be hauled. None of the 201s that ever worked on the Enterprise are going to last 40 years anyway.

What IE shouldn't of done is put it back on the Enterprise a day after it started services on Cork route, it will be a 209 loco at this rate which can't operate HEP anymore. 233 should be removed from the Enterprise until June when the EGV's return as in the long run it will save them money and not having to get another overhaul so soon.

For the level of passenger and freight service currently they are keeping a lot of 201's in service than they actually need which could be seen as a positive.

12:45 today and we have 206 propelling DD set 9003 into Connolly.

The shutters on road 2 of Connolly shed have been repaired after 230 went through it.

Looking down at Northwall yard 230 was waiting to depart with the afternoon IWT liner.

222 is sitting in Kent station which is nice to see. Well I passed the bus station and sure the lads are just standing there when they could be out working.

Today was the first time obviously id seen the new barriers with a train the other side and the difference in view is very noticeable.

230 in Waterford next to 219.

218 and 223 passed Kildare with a failed Mark 4 set earlier, 218 on front and 223 on the rear. Clearly wasn't a loco failure or the spare engine in Cork would of replaced 223. Possibly a DVT problem but on a more general note if a DVT failed is there any reason why the loco on the back couldn't just run round and operate it to Dublin?
