Apparently the battery is pretty poor on it, comes in at around 3 hours 40 minutes just using Wi-fi.

It's the price I'd pay for something like that. I remember where I'd saw it but asus had a model out with an intel core i3 ivy bridge for roughly the same maby a tad bit more.
I'd go with asus for a number of different reasons,build quality being one of those reasons
