    From MT Cranium:
FURTHER OUTLOOK ... That colder spell should fade out around Sunday 5th with somewhat improved weather and temperatures (12-14 C) although still a bit cloudy and showery at times, then the following week looks closer to average for May, highs 13-15 C and possibly a bit higher in a southeasterly flow (18-20 C by about the 7th of May).

I hope to Good he's right!

I did say that we'd be fine from May 6th on :D

I had a calf do something similar last year and it turned out to be meningitis. Keep a close eye on her for the next few hours to so if she gets worse and if she does get the vet asap....Saying that it could be something way less serious :D
Holding her head funny? circling? would it be mag deficiency as mag calms the brain?

Not quite sure what the problem was with her .
Roared all night and up until around 2 o clock today .
Back out on grass now ....... well back out in a field and not a bother on her .
    Chewing her cud this evening

Neighbours mare foaled last night, cow calved here too. Had to milk the mare and bottle feed the foal and will prob have to do the same with the cow! Wonder whats the nutritional difference between mare's milk and cows? Have some equine beestings left over:confused:

Old cow just finished calving with triplets! She has been running through the parlour with milking cows for the last 6 weeks. All 3 are good size calves. First set of triplets on this farm.

My last heifer from last night still looking like she's ready to calve - but hasn't started pushing. Swishing her tail, very soft and 'open' - but happy enough to go out to grass with the others.

Probably have another night sitting behind her. Thankfully she has straw comfortable enough to sleep on. Note to self: calving camera.

I think your wiring of your sheds is too sophisticated to carry a calving camera

Did you think she'd started last night? Maybe worth handling her after a while in case it's a breech.

Will handle her tonight if she doesn't get started properly - no sign of a water bag, no straining - just a bit of panting while chewing the cud and some clear mucous (but not the plug which has been coming on and off for a week or two).

And she's a little bit unsteady on her legs.

Doesn't help that we have no idea of a due date..

Too right! When I bought this place last Autumn I had planned to demolish the old cubicle shed that the Cattle are now coming in to.. started running conduits & cables for the other buildings, complete with data cables (!) - re-building workshops & etc., didn't think to go across the yard to the cubicles..

And for some reason, idiot that I am, I thought we'd be outside more or less by calving time.

Now we've settled on our plans a bit more, and figured out how the yard was really intended to run years ago.. and planning to bring the parlour back.. we'll have to do some serious re-drawing.

But for now the straw bedded calving cum cubicle shed is all a bit James Her-riot.

You are farming on a different scale to me! That would cover my feed bill for the whole year!

I'm in the process of doing that too - along with medical expenses. The b@$tards want household charge out of me in the next few weeks so I'm going to claim it back from them before they come looking for it back from me!
