Hope this is okay but I think it would be awesome if as many people as possible knew about Fight Like Apes FundIt page for their new album. It's a cool idea and for whatever reason they seem without label for this album (most likely lacklustre sales of their second album). I really liked the first 2 albums so if you do too you should take a look!

Just pledged. Great shout loves the first album. Hopefully they get the money to release their third.

Fundit is another way for bands to say "we are broke, and we can't afford to record an album".

It's a viable model though, and makes sense in this day and age. Probably only works for bands with an existing fan base. It's a shame that a band who had some profile a few years ago have to try and raise money to record an album of good sonic quality. It's a shame that this is the way the music business has gone. It's a shame that for 90% of bands, no money will be made. It's a shame the people who download music for free don't realise the costs of recording an album. It's a shame that making a living playing original music (and not struggling) is becoming harder and harder to do....

Not only that this fund.it isn't even to make the album. It's already made.

This is for production, PR and a new van.

Bit of a joke really, 20k and the thing is already recorded.
Basically they want a big name producer and the other stuff Lordgoat mentions.

Didn't they leave their label themselves?
So, they want money for all the things other bands have to pay for anyway?
Welcome to the local music scene lads. We all do it through working a day job.

My thoughts would be you spend as much as you can afford tp get the best quality recording as possible. Or you get a loan or work a job to raise the money. You work a job and it gets hard to take time off to tour Germany or the UK. I imagine FLA would still have a fanbase to tour?
Most people I know paid to record themselves. They did it track by track, saved up money along the way...

Just read the fundit page, and don't really know what to think. On the basis of their fundit, I'm thinking of setting one up because I'd like to drive across the USA, coast to coast, but I'm going to need a sh*tload of money, and a good car, so maybe a fundit campaign will help me achieve this? Or I could just save up for it, or get a credit union load like everyone else does?

That has made me very sad.

    It's very similar...

I'm not a fan of Fight Like Apes (really not a fan) but I don't think the similarity is too bad. There's not much to the Chemical Brothers song besides that one riff which is where the similarity is. I'd have to listen closely but I don't even think it follows the same chord structure. I'd say similar but not lawsuit territory.
