My HDMU image crashes a lot when I stream youtubes. It happens with a wired connection or wireless dongle. It seems to happen less with the wireless dongle (bizarrely). Is that usual for these boxes?

From my experience, that's not the only cause of crashes. Try AR-P. Hasn't crashed or locked up in ages.

I get crashes on a number of plugins - I tried "game of thrones" on icefilm last night after your report that it worked and it froze, as I selected the episode, same thing on 1channel.
I hope to give AR-P a go over the next few days see if that helps.
    I have a wired connection.

    Right Lads,

I spent a few hours on this last night and ran into a few problems, I'm going to start for scratch again tonight if anyone can give advice on where i'm going wrong that would be great.

    I'm using this image:
    HDMU_10905_E2_spark7162_211_git_5431_nodebug_Diff0_gst_Flash

    1. When I tried to format the hard drive only the first line of this worked:
    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1

    cd /autofs/sda1
    mkdir movie

After the first line ran and the hard disk was formatted the cd /autofs/sda1 just came up with could not be found or something like that.

    2. Autobouquets: I set up all the correct permissions etc. ran it from the plugins but could not find them anywhere?

    3. Picons: I dropped this folder in but couldn't see anything.

I'm probably doing something stupid or missed a step along the way.

If memory serves, I think I formatted my disk in spark.
HDDManager (or something like that) can make mounting disks easier.

I have been thinking of giving AR-P a go, if only because of Zakalibit's shameless plugging of the software. I only use my box for FTA so my main concerns are:

    (a) Is there lag when switching from terrestrial to sat? There is zero lag on my current HDMU image (scooterbunk's backup).
    (b) Is there a decent plugin repository. I'm on a Mac so unpacking ipk's is almost impossible. If the plugin doesn't load from the Temp folder I'm stymied.
    (c) Does it stream without crashing?

    no noticeable lag when switching

    link for depository

    http://extra.sat-universum.de/2.7/

streams fine using wired connection, a bit glitchy on wi-fi

    HTH

Do the scan while viewing a FTA channel

    3. Picons: I dropped this folder in but couldn't see anything.
It is probably in the nested directory i had the same when I extracted, check that all the images are directly under /Picons, not /Picons/Picons/

You use a supported USB wifi dongle or an ethernet cable

Using championc's image of AR-P and straight away, it' much more stable compared to HDMU, no more "hour glass" type moments waiting for the box to do something, remote is far more responsive and havent had to reboot for any lockups yet.
    Thumbs up from me :)

As I thought - another happy camper. I think I speak for everyone when I say that the more you mess about with this box, the more irate your better half is becomming :) Any chances of divorce have definitely receeded in my household since I went with AR-P !!!

    I'm trying out championc's AR-P.
    Couple of questions:
Youtube plugin won't load. It gives me an error message saying it's not available. Any ideas?
Can't get default epg to work. I select default cool tv guide, but when I press the epg button I keep getting the list of epg choices.
The pli skin is nice but laggy with saorview. I had a nice lagless skin on Scooterbunks backup but can't remember the name of it - anyone any idea which one that was? Or another nice looking skin that works ok/
    Cheers

For the EPG solution, see post #1352 which was after I made the image.

    Will do.
Kerni-HD1R2 is the skin that works well with Saorview.
    Great image! Thanks.

Just trying out championc's AR-P image on a box I'm programming up for my Dad. It's nice and slick, seems very stable, but isn't a daily runner until it has CoolTVGuide and Autotimers working.

zakalibit, does the latest version have webinterface? I have a few days with a spare box so I'd like to try get this going. You can pm me something newer if you have it

I've been testing the latest HDMU 10905. So far it seems well behaved with more of the network/streaming stuff working as it should. I'm not using autobouquets by choice.

    Hey Zak

Will I be able to do an upgrade of the current image or will I need to do a fresh re-build ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Tried recording one channel (actually a Saorview one ) and a $ one at the same time. The $ channel just brings up a black screen with the following text.."service unavailable check tuner configuration".

Not sure why this is happening. My tuner config is as per the setup guide -DVB-T enabled, DVB-S tuner B setup as per guide and DVB-S tuner C set as "Equal to Tuner B".

    I'm running the HDMU image.

To get autotimer and the webinterface no reflash will be needed, however at least OpenWebIf removal is a manual step, the rest either install from ipk, or from the feed when it is available. As well since we make webintercae as a default one it might not be in the feed. But there might be some other updates, bugfixes that you might want to have, so you'll have to reflash.

Have re-flashed images quite a few time now so it doesn't take too long to re-build from scratch. Sometimes it's better anyway to start afresh :)

I got my Alien 2 yesterday and pleased so far! I'm playing with Spark first and getting to grips with Filezilla, Telnet & making recordings. Today it froze on me after I uploaded a re-organised channel and favourites list that I edited (from a blind scan I did myself) in a "Spark Editor" I found on another forum.

    Question:
The Spark firmware version I have is 1.2.54 from last August. Do you upgrade using the Spark menu item > Upgrade Software? I see there's a 1.2.63 version from March 29th in there. But I notice there are other forums that also offer Spark firmware upgrades. Are they the same thing, maybe with extra bells and whistles? Can they be trusted?

    Flex

Just update in Spark to 1.2.63, the ones you see online have been modified for cardsharing

I've been using the alien 2 for a couple of months now thanks to the guides in this forum.
I want to try out the AR-P image but the box gets stuck on boot and won't load,
I can successfully load HDMU, Hrnigma and Satstation images but not AR-P, any sugestions ?
I load them through spark with the proper firmware (1.2.51 etc) and use the same memory stick.
