    Double Post.

Looking at Jason la Cafora's mock draft he has the jags trading up for the packers first round pick to nab barkley if he's still there saying we could pick up an immediate starter at running back at the top of round 2. I personally wouldn't like to see it as I wouldn't have a rb as our top need, but say if it were to happen what realistically would the packers get out of it in return for the pick?? I'd want their 1st next year and maybe a 2nd this year with one in the later rounds....or is hat just dreaming?

It depends. I think some teams may get itchy and decide to trade back up even before the Packers get on the board. If that's the case the other teams who are QB needy will get involved and it could get pretty stupid with what they may give up. But I think that's unlikely this year especially as the QB class doesn't look that great at the minute. I'd sit back and let whoever falls to my team fall. I wouldn't be giving up too muh to get back into the first tbh because the sides that need a QB are at the front of the 2nd round. Then again that could be a problem in itself and teams may make a big reach for a player becuase he's their guy. I think if teams are trading up they'll look at the 49ers who'll probably be more interested in future picks. If a team takes a QB in the top 8 then there will be a frenzy to climb back up imo

Yeah, if Geno Smith goes early (top 10) then other teams looking for a QB are starting to get restless.

Then when another one goes (e.g Jags at the top of the second or some team trading up into the end of the first) teams are going to start to panic.

For example if the jags were to grab Nassib at 33, then any team that wanted Barkley (for example) would really need to get ahead of Arizona and would look to move up.

Basically I think whenever the 2nd QB is taken will trigger a chain reaction. If the Packers wanted to move out of the first round it's in their interests for Smith to go early and hope teams panic to try an move up.

49ers are in a good position for this too as they have picks at 31 and 34, though the talk is of them moving up from 31, but could also look at trading pick 34 for a first next year.

That's incredibly ambitious. Last year the Vikings traded picks with the Ravens to move from the 35th pick to the 29th pick to draft Harrison Smith. For that the Raven got the 35th overall and a fourth rounder. You could also look at what the Patriots gave the Broncos last year to move up a few spots to get Hightower and what Tampa Bay gave the Patriots to move back into the end of the 1st to draft Doug Martin.

The trade you suggested is pretty similar so I'd be surprised if the Packers got anything close to a 1st, 2nd and late rounder for a trade like that. Judging by those trades the early second and a 3/4th rounder would probably be the best the Packers could hope for. No chance they get a future 1st rounder.

Aye I know but I really don't want them to trade down, this draft could do alot for us defensively/ and to protect AR so I don't wanna see them trade down picks in the hope of picking someone up for value later

Sick of looking at mock drafts.

My plan is to watch "From Elway to Marino" from 11-12 and then tune in.
    Can't wait.

Yeah where are you watching this ? The preview clip showed how much detail they went to to make it an exact replica of the draft room which was brilliant.

I see Gamepass is free for entirety of the Draft. How cool is that. Gamepass here I come.

I'm reading hat Lawrence Okoye may go as high as the 5th round. That is absolutely nuts tbh.

This took an lot, lot longer than I had anticipated. First the picks too ages and then trying to put it together to upload it took even longer. I'm hopeless with anything to do with images, pics etc.

Well the strength of this years draft is in the depth. If they aren't crazy about any prospects at 26 overall it might not be a bad idea to trade into the start of the 2nd and pick up an extra middle rounder.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,395 ✭✭✭✭mikemac1

Ravens have 12 picks so for once in a few years It's likely they won't be trading out of the first.

The franchise is also hoping to trade some picks into better picks for next year.

Something the Patriots are known for but it would be a new trend for the Ravens.

I presume that a rich eisen/nfl network style no tipping of picks in effect tonight ? If it isn't should it be ?

Evening lads, good to be back in this part of Boards :)

No idea who or what position Emery will take at 20 but I'm pretty certain it will not be Te'o. He has done a top job in free agency and really opened up the draft for us. Well done sir!

Literally came on here to post this. It would be much appreciated if people don't tip picks and we can have this thread following Roger Goodell's announcements.

Right, here’s my poorly researched and ill-informed mock draft. I expect far more trades, but really couldn’t be arsed putting them in. There is an actual chance I may not get one pick right!
    1. Chiefs – Luke Joeckel
Nobody is willing to trade for the 1st pick so the Chiefs are stuck here. I don’t know who is better between Fisher and Joeckel so I’m going with the guy who’s been mocked here since the Alex Smith trade.

    2. Jags – Geno Smith
If you have ever seen Blaine Gabbert play in the NFL then you will understand this pick. I’m not a big fan of overreaching like this but for a QB it’s less unreasonable. I don’t see the point in taking a LT to protect Gabbert.

    3. Raiders – Dion Jordan
The raiders want to trade down from here until Jordan becomes available. Now they are happy to stay where they are.

    4. Eagles – Lane Johnson
In the Boards mock I took Fisher here. I like the idea of Johnson’s athleticism in Chip Kelly’s offence.

    5. Lions – Eric Fisher
The Lions are delighted Fisher falls to them. Their two tackles from last year are gone but with Reiff and now Fisher they are arguably better than they were last year – or at least have more promise for the next 3 years.

    6. Rams – Tavon Austin (Trade from the Browns for the 16th pick in 1st and some lower round picks)
First trade. The lost Amendola and Jackson. Austin could line up all over the place and eventually Bradford gets a top receiver. Everyone is happy.

    7. Cardinals – Ziggy Ansah
The Cardinals say they have ranked their top 7 players and will take the best one when they pick. I don’t see any reason why they would lie (sarcasm). Anyway Ansah is their highest rated player and even though he may not fit their scheme they take him, because I believed them when they said they will take BPA.

    8. Bills – Matt Barkley
After seeing Smith go at the two the Bills panic and pull the trigger on a QB. I heard they prefer Barkley of Nassib so they take him here.

    9. Jets – Barkevious Mingo
Having seen Smith go at two and Barkley go with the previous pick the Jets really panic and decide they need to take a QB. Their choices are Nassib, Manuel and Tyler Bray. They are just about to pick Nassib when someone in the Jets realises that his former College just passed on him with the last pick for Barkley. Common sense prevails and they take Mingo.

    10. Titans – Dee Millner
Millner falls to 10 the Titans take him

    11. Chargers – DJ Fluker
I’m not a big fan of this pick. But I don’t know what else to do here. Chargers need O-line help and Fluker provides it.

    12. Dolphins – Xavier Rhodes
The Dolphins were so close to Millner. Having said that (and this might be controversial) if you put Millner into last year’s class of CB’s he may just be 5th best. Dolphins need a CB and Rhodes is the best available here

    13. 49ers – Kenny Vaccaro (Trade with the Jets for the 31st and 34th picks)
The 49ers will move up. They have to. They want Vaccaro. The Chargers could take Vaccaro so they may have to move even higher to get him.

    14. Panthers – Shariff Floyd
I’m not really sure how Floyd has fallen to here but he has. Panthers take him.

    15. Saints – Star Lotulelei
I’m not really sure how Star has fallen this far but he has. Saints take him.

    16. Browns – Desmond Trufant (Trade with Rams for 6th pick)
The Browns get a CB to pair with Joe Hayden. For the extra picks they received there’s not a huge amount between Millner and Trufant. (I originally had EJ Manuel here until I heard the Browns were interested in Ryan Mallet)

    17. Steelers – Jarvis Jones
Jones has said that the Steelers have told him that they won’t let him past them. Why would Jones or the Steelers lie.

    18. Cowboys – Jonathon Cooper
Big Jerry has said the Cowboys want to trade back from here. Don’t do it. Take Cooper and run.

    19. Giants – Chance Warmack
The Giants run defence was ranked 25th last year. So how will an offensive guard help? Well it won’t but the more protection they get Eli the more points he puts up. The more points he puts up the more the opposition have to throw the ball...and that’s where JPP comes in. The Giants are smart – they take Warmack

    20. Bears – Arthur Brown
The Bears need to replace Urlacher and I am reliably informed the Artur Brown is the best ILB in the draft. They could also use some O-Line help but there is none available here.

    21. Bengals – Matt Elam
The Bengals would love Fluker to be here so they could say goodbye to a certain Mr. Smith. He’s not so they add to their already impressive defence. For me Dalton is holding them back but he is probably better than the QB’s available here.

    22. Rams – Alec Ogletree
The Rams already took a receiver so they are unlikely to do that again. Ogletree has a lot of speed which will come in handy in their 4 games a year against Kapernick and Wilson.

    23. Vikings – DeAndre Hopkins
God damn Vikings, I wanted the Colts to take him next. Like the Bengals I think Ponder will hold the Vikings back but let’s at least give him another target. Hopkins is physical so he will help in the run game too.

    24. Eagles – EJ Manuel (Trade from Colts for the 35th pick and some later round picks)
The Colts want to trade back and Ryan Grigson used to work for the Eagles. 2 + 2 = trade. Manuel could fit the Chip Kelly offence and at least they will have a readymade starter when Vick gets injured in week 5, if he hasn’t already supplanted him.

    25. Falcons – Tyler Eifert (Trade from Vikings for the 30th pick and later round picks)
I think the Falcons need to get ahead of the Packers if they want Eifert. Jones, White, Gonzalez and Eifert – Matt Ryan will be a happy boy.

    26. Packers – Desmond Trufant
Packers found Hayward last year but let’s face facts they are still a pass heavy team. As a result they will have to defend they opposition passing the ball a lot. Up front they have Matthews and Nick Perry to rush the QB. Trufant gives them more protection at the back.

    27. Texans – Cordarelle Patterson
Texans are taking a WR. It’s just a case of which one. This could just as easily have been Justin Hunter.

    28. Broncos – Tank Carradine
The Broncos need a pass rusher now to replace Dumerville. Tank is that but his injury may put the Broncos off. They may also look at Datone Jones or Werner if they want to go for the safer option.

    29. 49ers – Datone Jones (Trade from Pats for god knows how many late round picks)
It’s a well established fact that the 49ers have too many picks. This will probably cost them a lot but they can afford it. If the 49ers get Vaccaro and Jones I’m going down to Paddy Power in the morning to put all the money I have on them winning the SB. That is all.

    30. Vikings – Sheldon Richardson
After helping the offence earlier the Vikings help their defensive line. Most have him rated higher so the Vikings are happy here.

    31. Jets – Ryan Nassib (Trade with 49ers for 13th pick)
The Jets get this pick and the 34th pick for the aforementioned trade. One will be a QB and the other will be a WR or CB. DJ Hayden or Justin Hunter could have just as easily have gone here.

    32. Ravens – Manti Te’o
Manti just had to get into the first round. But seriously the Ravens need help at middle line backer. Te’o might not be the most athletically gifted player but up until the National Championship all he did was make plays and was according to everything I heard a great leader for Notre Dame. Kind of reminds me of another linebacker the Ravens had. Also some questionable off the field issues.

No bans....but how about the worst penalty that we can hand out in an American Football forum....instead they have the make the Browns their second favorite team. I can't think of many punishments worse :D

I've set up the discussion thread for the full weekend of picks here. We've used this thread to build up the draft and I like the idea of different thread for the actual draft. Should make things a bit easier for us over the next couple of days to keep track on things!
