To explain myself more lucidly, of course it's happened and such a thing exists in the great out there, however, how many stories do you hear of someone's behavior in a court case or whatever being attributed to someone spiking their drink?

I can't say I've ever witnessed someone's drink being spiked.

Depending on what it's spiked with. My friends drink was spiked with e accidentally. While at oxegen one of the girl got a date rape drug put in her drink.(she wasn't raped through). My friends friend collapsed after someone slipped something into his drink.

I'm 19 and i have a good few getting anything put into their drinks. That why I avoid drinking when our. But the most common date rape drug is alcohol. A majority of rape victims who claim they were date rape were just wasted from drink

Was it proven with medical tests?

The cases that end up being treated by the sexual assualt clinics show that the a persons drink is generally spiked with alcohol. That last report/statement they issued that I know about was approx 18 months ago and they had no actual positive results at that stage.

So it appears to be a myth in Ireland in anyway.

    In my experience its myth.

I hear it all the time.. Mostly its either a friend throwing in a few extra shots and thinking they're being clever or an over indulgence on behalf of the person (usually a young female).

Same goes for phones and wallets being nicked "where did you have it?'' ~ "In the toilet, at the bar, left it on the table" etc..

People just can not take responsibility for their own actions.

It's an excuse most girls use when they get sh1tfaced.

What's even funnier is that most girls that use the excuse of getting spiked are more likely to be tranquilized and returned to the zoo.

This is pretty much the basis for the thread, you see it so often in things like the Indo, it makes you wonder ''who's this phantom drink spiker? I never see them''

'My little Peter broke three car windows and made a poo on our doorstep, his glass of cider was spiked'

'We found out sweet daughter Katie in bed with a midget and a goat while speaking in tongues, her WestCoastCooler had to have been spiked'

It probably happens but there's no doubt it's used as an excuse for when people go too hard on the drink.

What's sad too is that its an excuse for sleeping with someone or doing something stupid.

I think It's myth. I've gotten in some states, but it was all my own doing.

I can't stand people saying 'oh I drank ten pints last Saturday and I was fine, so I was obviously spiked last night'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Excedion

Friend was nearly spiked by a lad offering him to down a pint for a fiver. He went to do it and there was an LSD stamp at the bottom of the glass. Needless to say that offer was quickly rejected.

As for date-rape drunks or their ilk havent seen it. To be honest the only time I've seen peoples drinks getting spiked was with laxatives.

An excuse for slappers to be slappers most of the time I'd say

I've seen it while working for a club in the uk, we had to take a drugs awareness course
What to look for when dealing with people suspected of being spiked bit of an eye opener ,
Its an be all excuse here ,

it wasn't me I was spiked

It doesn't happen. We are supposed to believe that someone puts drugs (of which there is no trace later) into strangers drinks. For what benefit? Most supposed victims of this aren't robbed, raped or poisoned.

Its just drama queens of both sexes wanting to play the victim to deflect from the fact they got far too drunk and made an ass of themselves.

    Massive urban myth.

'My drink got spiked' = I drank so much I passed out and can't remember what the fcuk happened.

Does it happen? Yes, occasionally. Does it happen as much as so-called urban myth/legend would have us believe? Not a chance.

It's an easy excuse when you've gone way overboard.

I used to think it was a myth but very recently two girls I know went from sober to passed out in the space of a couple of hours in a popular late bar in Dublin. Same thing happened in the same place to mates before. Bouncers were having none of it when asked and the guards said it has been happening more frequently when they had to get involved.

The bouncers who are posting in this thread hate the idea of this happening frequently on their watch because it shows they are incompetent.

Also if anyone has seen someone spiked with roofies they aren't gonna cause any public order offence other than being completely unable to stand or control themselves. No fighting etc...

It does happen, in my experience in a joke gone wrong way as opposed to a bogeyman rapist way, I know a guy who was spiked with Viagra, which was apparently hilarious until it wouldn't go down...

    Over a few hours
    Late night bar
    Sober to passed out

No mention of how much of what they drank.

    It's like the MasterCard ad:

    High pitched shouting: 4 vodkas
    Dancing on tables: 6 vodkas
Getting thrown out of a nightclub: 8 vodkas
Kissing an ugly randomer on the street: 10 vodkas
    Indecent exposure: 12 vodkas

Puking, ****ting your pants and punching a cop: Roofies

There's some things only "I was spiked" can explain away.

For everything else there's "I was drunk".

Getting spiked with a yoke and getting spiked with a roofie are entirely different things.

They came out at about 11, no drink had before. The guards were involved by about half one. No shots.

I've read this a few times and it still doesn't make any sense.

I haven't read any of this thread and I couldn't be arsed to be honest but I am going to say this.

I have a few good friends who are doctors. One particular friend has, since finishing her registration year, worked almost exclusively in A&E and M.A.U. Departments.

Every week for the last 3/4 years my friend and her colleagues are presented with a handful of girls, usually aged between 17-25, but sometimes older, who's friends claim that their drink was spiked. The girls are usually awake but totally off their heads, uncommunicative and nonresponsive. Their friends tell the people admitting the girl stuff like "she was grand and then all of a sudden went like this".
The medical staff, as they should, treat these cases very seriously, the girls are taken for a full examination, have blood works done ASAP and urine samples taken when possible. They are then treated for the symptoms and checked on regularly to make sure they are doing well. Their friends are sent home and the doctors and nurses in the A&E dept look after these young women.

Not once in the several years my friend had been practicing in Ireland has anything besides excessive alcohol and reactiona drugs like weed and occasionally harder stuff like cocaine shown up in anyone's blood works. No sedatives, no sleepers, no "roofies", nada.

The girls are usually just so absolutely off their faces, rat arsed drunk that they cannot function.

Of course the wake up the next day feeling like they are going to die because they have mild alcohol poisoning and go back to their friends and continue to believe they were "spiked", but the reality is, that in the vast majority of these cases, the girls involved drank too much and made a tit out of themselves.

Does date rape happen in Ireland, yes, definitely, and that's disgusting, but more often than not, it's not people being "roofied".
I'd say the most common drug used is alcohol.
Scumbags taking advantage of passed out drunk girls they brought home with them and raping them while they are near comatosed.

While I'm sure it does happen it doesn't happen as much as people say! Most people drink way too much these days before they go into town and the mixture of fresh air and a few more drinks and they are all over the place. And all their friends ever remember is sure poor auld Jim or Sarah only had two or three drinks they must of been spiked and nothing to do with the bottle of vodka before hand!

I said in my experience, honestly I'd say it's possible, I was out one night, didn't drink beforehand, and my second drink of the night was handed to me by a friend after it was bought by a stranger, sipping it, a third of the way down I was not drunk, but not near right, it took a lot of effort to function, I knew well enough to tip it and not consume anything for quite a while. Would I say I was spiked? It's definitely possible, but I can't rule out that I just wasn't up to drink that night or that I hadn't had anything earlier that provoked a funny reaction. I'd say the same for friends, I've carted people in strange states out of pubs after little alcohol but there is no way I can claim there was nothing in their system they were unaware of, differing degrees of likelihood but I'd never be able to stand up and say 'they were spiked', and I'd say in any of those circumstances people should have taken more personal responsibility in what they were doing.

To be fair, you can spike a drink with alcohol.

Just on the point above about A&E. the Gards that took these girls home never even mentioned bringing them to hospital.
