No he didn't say that at all :(

Sorry, but he claimed he was diagnosed with hepatitis fifteen years ago, while donating blood in Ireland.

An intravenous drug user who donates to blood banks is a severe danger to society.

He said he donated blood for money in the states. He said he then went to Ireland where he tried to donate but they tested the blood, and that's how he found out he had hepatitis.

It was eventually cleaned up 17 hours later when the cleaner came on duty. THAT is one of the main reasons as to what causes the spread of MRSA and other illnesses in our hospitals.

FYI It's not actually the cleaner's job to clean up blood, which is a bodily fluid and therefore the responsibility of the nursing staff to deal with.

Everyone who says nurses were much better in the old days - do you have any proof beyond anecdote/hearsay? After all, in the "old days", priests, teachers, doctors, politicians, nuns, gardaí, rich businessmen etc. were all above criticism and above suspicion, and people trusted authority figures more

You mean do I have a nice safe link I can post on this thread? No I don't, but we are hearing stories of people not getting washed properly, of floors going for hours without being washed because there was no cleaning staff, and I was saying years ago when nurses did everything, and there was a matron who was in charge, things seemed to work better, and there was someone to complain to, or someone to point out short comings.

Nowadays hospitals have got cleaners and porters and an army of administration staff, and a faceless management structure and when something goes wrong the 'system' is blamed.

I don't have rose tinted glasses looking back at the rare aul times, but surely everyone can see that the current set up is not working and we need change.

Listen goose2005, that simplistic 'evidence based' approach is a backwards step. As mentioned we 'have heard stories' from the ever reliable, not at all histrionic Liveline caller about how things really are. Its a fact that 'things seemed to work better', what more do you want? We all know that there are no 'complaints officers' and patientwelfare.ie is a joke. Each ward has a CNM2 in charge but they don't listen or care. Why would they? They entered the profession/vocation and have spent years looking after others (and getting paid millions for it!).

Nurses should spend their time cleaning and talking not educating themselves and contributing to a monumentally complicated 21st century healthcare system.

Things obviously aren't working but it is a known fact they worked better 30 years ago when life expectancy was 8 years lower.

As you say yourself: "in the "old days", priests, teachers, doctors, politicians, nuns, gardaí, rich businessmen etc. were all above criticism and above suspicion, and people trusted authority figures more", those WERE the rare auld times when Ireland never had any problems. Why don't you get a grip?

It was cleaned up by a cleaner doing routine rounds the next day. They cleaned up the bits of dried blood and the footsteps where people had spread it around the corridor. Saw it being cleaned up myself.
