    My 2007/2008* black golf mk5 has a dent on the bonnet caused by some scumbag and his apparent need to throw rocks.

    I've sourced a black bonnet with the same colour code as a replacment but it comes from a 2005 model.

    Would colour degredation caused simply by the age of the car be noticable? (as long as the bonnet is generally in good condition)

    If there is a slight colour/wear difference, are there any options available to me such as:

    simply wash/wax/polish the whole car
    get the whole car buffed
    etc...

    * the tax disk says 2007 as it's a pre-reg, but it's a 2008 chassis number

    It's a guess* but black doesn't fade as bad as for instance red so you should be ok. Particularly after a good buff.
    If they have the same colour code I'd wager it'll be almost invisible.

    *without seeing them side by side.

    I may be wrong here, but aren't there different shades of the same colour codes sometimes?

    Can't see how you could go far wrong with black though.

    You're right, I was getting matched paint made up for my car, gave the code and was handed out three strips of paper with about 15-20 different shades of the same color.
    Car is a 2006 Corolla with code 8P4
