I've a HTPC with a Blackgold BTG-3595 dual DVB-S2 and dual DVB-T tuner card. I'm running Mediaportal frontend with the HADU plugin which works quite well, albeit channel switching is a little slow. I must try the XBMC frontend soon as I also have DVBdream and DVBviewer installed.
I got my Logitech Harmony 650 remote (as posted in the Bargain Alerts section) during the week and I'll set that up later in order to remove the stock pile of remotes that are currently scattered about the house. :)

The Alien has been pretty much rock solid since I've set it up. I'd be nice to get the RTE Player/3Player plugin's working however. An XBMC plugin for Enigma2 would be ideal.

The XBMC PVR plugin for XBMC already exists and is excellient by all means, use the VU+ one, works with a DM800 without issue, as like you I have multipe devices and multiple tuners but for the sake of keeping the wife happy I need to centralise everything as there is too many points of failure at this stage.

Can I be brazen and ask you to test your Alien with a trial version of DVBLink :-)

    Hi all,

Firstly, great thread! Big thanks to Pog for the great steb by step also!

I have the Amiko Alien 2 running Enigma2. have a question about the cooltv plugin. Under the setup I have set "start cool tv guide with red button" to yes however when i hit the red button I still get the "please choose an extension" with options for sleep timer, cooltvguide, rte player etc. is there a way to have a button launch directly into the CoolTV Multi Guide?

I read earlier in the thread that its done with the button mapping, anyone got an example of what i need to change?

    Thx,
    Derek

    Have you restarted the box?

Hi guys - has anyone been able to set up autotimer on the AR-P image? It looks like it needs WebInterface (rather than openwebif which comes with the AR-P image), but I can't install web interface, I have tried everything I could think of but keep getting green screens of death...

    Thanks in advance

Yeah mate - set the cootv start on red button to yes. save and reboot. Still the same though...

I've set it to bouquet on start and that has worked so the set-up is working just not the red/green etc. buttons if that narrows anything down??

    **Resolved**

so I installed a plugin called MultiQuickbutton which allows you to edit the button mapping. from this then I have mapped the EPG button to open the CoolTVGuide Bouquets list.

    Cheers for the input pog!!

keep getting green screen when I choose network wizard , using ar-p image, it seems to be skin related when using dtv-hd, dmconcinnity etc.

I have a brand new triplex alien2, that is no use to me (too many tuners), I might consider selling it for a reasonable price, ping me if interested.

Ditto with mine maybe not sure yet though. PM me if interested. Only a few month old as new etc

The lack of blindscan still on Enigma seems crazy when you have so many other images supporting this on the Azbox ME, a far more advanced box really with triple boot up etc

I can only suggest setting a static ip address which you should do if you plan to stream from the box - or ftp stuff to it which you'll deffo need to do with AR-P get get everything just right

This is a question for people using their Alien2 to stream channels to their laptop using HDMU Enigma.

How are people connecting things up to achieve streaming? Running a network cable from the Alien2 to the router? Using a Wifi dongle? Using HomePlugs to send the signal around the house using the mains? I would ideally like to stream over Wifi but have read that those Wifi dongles give mixed results. The Wifi card in my laptop supports the 802-N Wifi protocol but my Netopia Router is 802.11b+g only. My router is about 20ft from the box but there's a glass/wooden door separating them.

If Wifi dongles do the job then can anyone recommend a good model? There are three on eBay from an Irish seller, one has an antenna. Is that better?
    dongle with Antenna : http://www.ebay.ie/itm/USB-WiFi-Dongle-Skybox-Openbox-Eyebox-F3-F4-F5-M3-X3-X4-X5-RT5370-150Mbps-/251255776004?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item3a8002e304#ht_1352wt_1165
    Black dongle : http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Amiko-Nano-USB-WiFi-Stick-for-8900-Alien-8820-8330-8340-Alien-3-Alma-RT5370-/261036285162?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item3cc6f99cea#ht_1076wt_1165
    White dongle : http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Amiko-Mini-USB-WiFi-Stick-for-8900-Alien-8820-8330-8340-Alien-2-Alma-RT5370-/261079530735?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item3cc98d7cef#ht_1040wt_1165

    Any help gratefully appreciated!

using 2nd one on front usb port, works fine downstairs, about 30ft away.

Hi, would anybody know the answer to this or have any pointers? cheers
I'm on the latest version of HDMU. I have a collection of MP4 videos and they play alright on the box. However, when I pause most of the time the box stops responding. The circle indicating that the box is busy appears on the upper left corner and never goes away. The box doesn't react no matter what button you press on the box. The only way to get the box back is by turning it off and on with the switch at the back. It doesn't always happen, but happens most of the time. I have no problems pausing any recording I've made (files with .ts extension), the video is paused and when I press play or pause again, the video resumes smoothly. I've only seen this issue with MP4 videos so far.

Is it a known issue that MP4 videos are not very well supported? Could I convert those MP4 videos into .ts? Any other workarounds?

I have fixed webinterface and autotimer plugin on AR-P over weekend, should be available in the feed shortly.

As well thanks to you I have convinced the team to change webinterface as a default in the next release.

I'm working at the moment on some issues with divx format, it is the same area of code as others, if you can reproduce the same on AR-P and give me a full report with logs/crashlogs, I would take a look. Or at least give us a samle file that exhibits the problem and crash-logs if any.

I do not promise that I'll fix them, but I'll try.

Hi Stanley, cheers for the response. I haven't bought an Alien 2 box yet but intend on doing so. How did you get the streaming working? I read there is a Web Interface plugin which you use to configure a port and then you use that and the boxes ip address to view it on the VLC player on your laptop? Simple as that? Did you set up a static ip on the box? How?

Does the streaming picture appear on your computer live as it would be on the TV or do you have to download it first or anything? And what's the picture like then? Does it break up or pixelate? I read streaming HD is not really doable over Wifi unless you have an 802.11-N router. That's a shame as the Saorview channels are all HD.

The small black wifi dongle would certainly be the most discrete on the box but I wonder is the signal as strong from it as from a dongle with antenna?

So many qs.. too many I know, apologies!

    Flex

For any media streaming you really need to be considering cable or decent homeplugs. HD streaming from the box is 22-30mbit, i've measured it, that is a big ask of any wireless dongle. I always say wireless should be used for mobility only, anything static should be cabled

Not exactly true, there are quite a few images to try, a good forum about the brand also over at Ricks satellite...plus most if not all images have blindscan and 4.2.2 decoding unlike E2 still :(

Does anyone know how many weeks of data you download at a time using CrossEPG? I presume it's about 4 weeks of listings?

And does it overwrite itself every time or save to a different location on the hard drive?

Overwrites, it's a simple xml database

Oh you legend Zak. Can't wait for next update so. BTW, for Diblin Deluge, maybe you can confirm if MP4 videos work on AR-P ?

IMPORTANT - Anybody with Netopia router (and maybe other ones too), if you have wireless set for B & G, then set it for G ONLY. Wireless routers set themselves internally to the slowest speed of connected devices. Do a Speedtest on B & G and then switch to G Only and retest - I bet you it's better.

Streraming is perfect over a home network (even to mobile devices) using SD Channels. Things seem to get a bit ropey on HD.

I have no experience of running the box off a dongle. should certainly be OK for SD Channels. I thought only RTE2 was in HD ???

Cheers for the opposing views Gents. Question: How are you setup for streaming at home? Do you run network cable from Alien2 to the router then more cable from the router to your PC? I suppose Wifi from the router to phones? Did you get Homeplugs, if so which ones are best?

By the way you're right championc, only RTE2 is currently broadcasting in HD. I had noticed recently the Saorview channels broadcast using H264 compression like the Satellite HD channels and that was confusing me.

Anybody else using a Wifi Dongle with the Alien2 on Enigma?

I'm on UPC (broadband only, no tv) so the router is at the TV location so I have a simple patch straight from my box to the router - but every other connection in the house is wireless over 802.11g
