3 HEC registered guys starting ahead of him for this game. They might be playing to see who gets that bench spot.

It is a shame he hasn't gotten more gametime. He's looked good I think when he's played.

Fair enough, didn't realize the whole backrow were ERC registered. Even Ronan?

    Especially Ronan.

I'd be fairly sure that Penney knows which one of his players is going to be on the bench for Clermont: the same one who has been on the bench for every single HEC game so far this season.

There's almost certainly more to the situation than wanting to give all his ERC squad players a run before naming the 23 for next week.

The bench backrow slot is definitely open for competition. Butler has benched for every HEC game, but he was behind DavidOC when he was fit and Dougal was starting at the start of the season. Ronan hasn't got a look in, but that is largely down to injury.

Stander is a 6/8, but both the 6 and 8 due to start against the Dragons are going head-to-head for the bench HEC spot.

People are looking for controversy where there is none.

Wow, you're right, I never realized that Butler was on the HEC bench for every game.

You'd never know though, when Dave O'C was fit he was ahead of Butler, and might still pip him for that spot now. Plus if Butler was to get a knock in this game that kept him out, you'd want the other two lads to have gotten a run also.

I wouldn't be reaching to find a deeper meaning to the selection here.

I wouldn't reach too much, agreed. But it's far from a non-suspicious situation. Six Pro12 games in a row without a start including matches in the 6N where players that don't normally get starts were getting them.

This is gas. Every week the same.

    PENNEY DOESN'T RATE STANDER.

Its the same every week, because there are very simple/realistic reasons why he hasn't been starting. We'll see where he lies in Penney's plans next season.

ROG won't have had game time in 2 weeks.....is there still no hope of keatley starting against clermont?

Strange one really. Anytime I have seen Stander he's looked good.

Could he play Keatley at 12? Two people to boot the leather off the ball?..

I was more thinking that rog will be rusty having not played for 2 weeks.

he said that he would like to play in Ireland because his parents are from here. He didn't mention any province.

The one I read said he has been told about Munster a lot by someone over there and it would interest him.

    Fair enough

I hope that in 2 years time Mike Sherry has progressed to a level where he's the nailed on hooker for Munster & challenging for the Irish jersey.

West Of Ireland originated, surely that means he will be lining up for Connacht :D

I reckon Sherry is the nailed-on hooker for Munster, he's comfortably better than Varley imo.

As for challenging for Ireland...he has the most consistent darts out of any of them. Lacks the explosive pace of Cronin, the groundhog ability of Strauss and the all-round doggedness of Best...but he's still a capable, well-rounded player. Nice hands, fairly good carrier. If he works on those things, I don't see why he couldn't challenge.

Ah nuts. I was looking forward to seeing how the younger lads got on. Well cheers anyway, I hadn't seen that article so I wasn't sure if I was just missing it & I couldn't find any streams online for it either

Archer off for Ryan just before half time. Hope he isn't injured.

More or less the first choice lineup that will be close to the side that will face us. Mike Delany isn't registered for the Heineken Cup squad so he won't feature against Munster. I don't know if Brock James will be back fit from injury.

On a side note, Munster should publish their lineups in a graphic like this! It's cool.

That's a serious back line in fairness! Everyone outside 10 can break the line. Id nearly prefer James to play. He can be got to at times. Id fancy our back row to give him hell. Parra will be on kicking duty id imagine.

Parra will be on kicking duty, no question.

Wow, mad that they're fielding such a first team, they could ship a few injuries
