This is my speed. I'm happy enough with it. Eircom laying fibre all around me so will be departing sky bb unless they can give me the fibre speeds. 2652576069.png

I'm guessing you're on bitstream? Aka wholesale Eircom.
    I'm on LLU.

    Thanks!
Yeah never had Eircom only for phone years back.
Had Vodafone before Sky and had absolutely no issue with Vodafone,
Only moved because of the unlimited!
Was also offered eFibre as per trial basis, but I'm happy where I am for the minute!

I'm LLU as well. I've had BB since 2005, with eircom in the beginning but went to Vodafone and then to Homevision. I only went to Sky because it was a tenner a month, the double in speed was a nice bonus too.. I wonder why the people on bitstream are only getting problems when they moved to Sky and how will returning to Eircom solve their problems? Unless Eircom caused the problem in the first place.

This is the question that really puzzled me. I was with Eircom since 2004 and never had slowdowns in the evening, even before NGB. I dont think Sky has the backhaul to handle the traffic they are getting, very poorly thought out execution of their broadband rollout, with no solution in sight according to their "customer service"

I too got the trial 10euro offer, my neighbor stayed with Eircom, no change in his speeds, but mine suck now, so just waiting for Eircom to switch me back to them.

So Im going from 10euro a month to 45euro a month, but I have to because my internet is unusable from 6pm to 1am, good bye Sky.

Pardon my ignorance but what does "backhaul" mean? Why do Eircom have it and sky don't?

I work for sky and I was asking the tech guys about speed in the evenings said it should be resolved now..there was contention on the bitstream 48:1 when there shouldn't have being so they had to deal with the wholesaler hope it is rectified I'm going live next week on the bb

Its not improved for me yet anyway - too late in any event as I switched back to eircom.

Amazing the information that came from the support people, in Dublin, and the UK forums (forums were really bad!) - wouldn't encourage you to stay.

Well its the evening here, and right on schedule my speed has dropped like a lead balloon.

Dont hold your breath for a resolution.

I don't understand why sky have the problem with slow speed in the evening and eircom / vodafone don't. I am now waiting for vodafone to reconnect me. I was with them for 4 years and only moved for unlimited and cheaper service. Before that I was with eircom, I had no issues with either of them.

I have been on sky broadband for 2 months. When they admit to the bitstream problem they let you break the contract without penalty.

I'am in Bettystown and Sky have ad's all over the place. How can they be allowed to sell an a service that does not work?

Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out more information on the bitstream and llu issue.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Would love to get a Sky Tech support on these threads to explain it to us, and give us a timeline to have it sorted, IF it can be sorted.

My speeds are improved about 10% in the evening, I am getting over 2MB now, which while very poor, is a slight improvement.

I would'nt cancel just yet, guys. There's been a marked improvement for me in the last 2 evenings. My d/l speeds at 4.10pm today was 16.38mbps. At 9.40pm it was 11.60mbps. Last week at this time of evening it was under 2.00mbps. So here's hoping..............

If you want Sky tech support see the link below, on their own forums.

BUT, I warn you, they will do nothing but anger you and give you the total run around without answering any questions directly related to the problem.

Read all the posts there, and not once, did they admit it was their problem. It was always your microfilter, your wireless connection, your faceplate, your pc or laptop, really it was farcical.

Too late I have already moved to Vodafone. They tell me I should get 15mb on there Ideal broadband. They only problem is it is a 300gb / month and on a bad month I might hit that. The cost on Vodafone is €49 / month I used to pay them €86 / month. So at least I can thank Sky for bringing in some competition.

Sky was €47.50 but Sky was unlimited and their phone package was also better.

    Got following from Sky
    Hi Paul,
Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.
I am very sorry to hear that you are experiencing slower than expected download speeds with your Sky Broadband service. We were aware of this issue and there was a fix put in place on monday and we have been testing the speed issues since and as far as we are aware the issue should now be resolved. I would ask that you perform a master rest on your sky hub by holding the reset button on the back for more than 30 seconds and monitor the speeds from there on.
I would advise that if you are still having this problem that you call our technical team here in Dublin directly on 0818 762 917 and one of our technical agents can troubleshoot any issues for you on a more personal level. (Calls to Sky help centres are FREE of charge when you use your Sky Talk landline) They will also be able to test your line to establish the cause of the slow speeds. In the mean time you can try some of the troubleshooting steps yourself at the link provided below. Once again please accept our sincere apologies for any frustration this has caused you.

Hi - I know this is an old thread, but after moving to Sky in January, (cheep, better speeds, etc.), after a week away last week, my BB has slowed down to shocking speeds, 0.3 to 1 MB, (had constant 9-12MB with number of devices attached). Countless phone calls to support, techs and promised callbacks, this morning got a text, telling me "its fixed" Actually its worse now!

I read everywhere about Sky BB has taken more than they can chew, (contention issues, etc.) and just wondering if any of you gone worse/better since? eFibre is now here and thinking of switching back to auld Eircom, I know, more expensive, they drew me bonkers for years, but I never had such bad speed issues with them - never got promised 8MB, but lingered around 6MB at all times. Maybe UPC is better option?

Also, does anyone know if Sky will try to hold me to a contract? (been Sky user for 10 years and could cancel the TV of they get heavy).

    Thanks!

Any updates on this as Im about to cancel my sky, from what I have seen here the best thing to do is put €20 credit in the phone and just go through the motions with them.

Any more input from someone who has cancelled lately with them.

(PS) I am well out of contract and I just have the basic tv package ......

Are you cancelling the tv service or the bb? If its the bb, then your new provider will do all the cancelling work. No need to waste credit hanging on for Sky to answer.
