Hong Fu: Carbon bars buy.

Inspired by this post from Brian? in the broomwagon:

Rode a bike for and few months that had the real FSA ones on it and really liked the shape. I'm too much of a cheap skate to buy the real ones. Hongfu get great reviews for their various bits.

Anyone else interested? They're about $60 each bought alone but I'd say we could knock a few quid off with a bulk buy.

I pm'd Brian? as was interested in the bars, as I would be getting a new set of forks from Hong Fu anyway, and as he has some personal stuff going on so I aggreed to set up a thread.
I have emailed Hong Fu looking for a price for 5 bars (and my forks).
I cant imagine a huge discount for 5 but the saving will be made on shipping costs.
Needless to say I would pay extra shipping costs because of the forks as well as the bars.
Customs cost ,of course, will need t be paid.
SO... anyone else interested once a price is confirmed.

I have got a reply from Hong Fu.

the sample price is:

HF HB003: $60*5=$300(400mm);

HF FO001: $65(3K/12K/UD);

ship cost: $80(EMS);

4% charge for paypal;

so total: $300+$65+$80=$445*1.04=$462.8;

please tell me which kind finish of the fork, the handlebar and fork are in stock now ,can ship out in 3 days after payment."

Will need to double check that email but as it be paid by PayPal our ass will be covered.
I have replied that the order may vary and will confirm the order in approx 10 -14 days.

Sure. As I said when I have a near enough final number in say 10 -12 days I will get a final cost.
I don't imagine the shipping will increase in price as that seem to be the standard shipping price from them be it wheels,frames etc

I wouldn't touch carbon bars unless you intend not to use bar tape. Personally, if I got a gift of a pair, I'd return them.

Metal bends. Carbon cracks. And if it's hidden by bar tape, you don't see it. How many of you have had your bike knocked over by kids/wife/dog? They're not designed for side impact.

I've seen two broken carbon handlebars in the past 12 months. The first was a caused by a dog knocking the bike over. The second by overtightening the bolts on the stem. Both resulted in falls by the rider.

Right, you may have missed it but we've already had one series of posts deleted on these lines, i.e. someone coming in and offering unsolicited advice on buying carbon bars and dragging the thread off topic.

There's a time and a place for it and this isn't one. People here are trying to organise a group buy. They aren't asking for advice.

No material is immune from failure and alloy bars can and do snap as well. I'm pretty sure everyone looking to buy is well aware of this.

So let's knock this on the head.

Sorry my fone went dead earlier and I had no charger.

For those who are looking for stems and seatposts can you follow the link in post 1 and let me which model number you want so she can give me an exact price.

She told me that the bars only come in 3k weave and has a limited stock of 420 and 440 bars and in order to hold them I may need to put down a deposit of 30%.
Can you let me know if this applies to you.
