Another pointless cash in on past glories. Sad.

Would love to see this. Shane Meadows has good pedigree too. There's only one showing in the IFI. Is that the case with the Lighthouse and Cineworld too?

Does anyone know if this will come out in normal cinemas in cork?

    Any update on this?

Will it be shown anywhere outside of Dublin does anybody know?

I am heading in to the IFI for the premier tonight and really looking forward to it. Have not seen any news on how much of a general release this will get though....

Went to the premier tonight and while not perfect I thoroughly enjoyed it. In the Q & A Shane Meadows talked about it being in 3 acts and it essentially was with only the final act really having some weaknesses in my opinion. Brief summary/impressions follows. I will spoiler for the weak of heart but I'm not revealing anything since watching it is about the music, the band and the fans really not a story that can be revealed.
Act 1 is the preparation for their comeback interspersed with some back story on their early days featuring an hilarious early interview that had Squire and Brown on great form plus footage of their 2012 rehearsals which is absolutely fantastic and possibly the highlight of the whole film for me with the middle segment or Act 2 being the next highlight of the free warm up gig they did in warrington which has some great interaction with the fans as they race to try and get 1 of the 1000 free tickets after an announcement on radio and facebook. One fan who misses out moans about seeing two or three people he knows have no interest in music going in which I identified with. But hey it's age where it's more important to be able to say you were there than wanted to be there.

The final segment or Act 3 is the final build up to Heaton Park and is where things get a bit patchy. The interaction with the fans was so good previously that this seems lacking that emotional connection between fans and band and while showing Brown explaining to a crowd in Amsterdam that their drummer has gone home so no encore and explaining that there has been a bust up it is left there with not even a simple "they patched things up and continued the tour" explanatory note. Regardless the music is there in all it's glory including that great version of Fool's Gold (despite a bit of Squire wankery here and there).

    All in all unmissable.

*edit - Meadows also mentioned that next up for him is This is England 1990s which will inevitably feature music from The Stone Roses amongst others. Something to look forward to.

It was as I expected and I loved it. But that is speaking as a die hard fan. I am not sure the casual observer would get this movie.

The highlight for me was the build up to the Parr hall gig. You really felt happy for those fans who were bringing their old LPs to get the wristbands...and then seeing the band excited like little kids before and after they went on stage was gold.
Reni did not show up last night, I hope there are no ongoing problems in the camp!

Really great doc, the rehearsal footage was amazing and meadows love for the band really shines through

This is a DVD purchase for me, simply because being 24 I never thought I would ever get to see the Stone Roses live, never mind in Manchester. Being there with my mates on the Friday night last summer was incredible and a very memorable weekend, can't wait to see this movie!

So is there anything on it back from the original days or is it all modern? Still annoyed that Alexander Palace video was never released etc...

saw it last night and loved it....but really i thought meadows had very little to work with!
    Highlights:
The focus on reni's vocals during recent rehearsals
    warrington
    guitar wankery at the end

Ahh ok (thanks).. Makes it a lot more interesting to me.. Amazing videos of them back to the late 80's are available but don't seem to be used much.. (I sound like an old miserable git, but i just prefer the old version of the band. :))

Saw it this evening and thought it was awful. Cannot understand why he didn't tease out the tensions that killed the band in the first place and why, when Reni had his 'moment' recently, the shutters came down entirely and all we got instead was a tired rendition of 'Fool's Gold'. Desperate stuff.

One man's opinion if you ask me. Tired is not the word I would use to describe that version of Fools Gold nor any of the music in the film. This is about the music and that was good enough for me. While it would be interesting to get more info. on the problems behind the scenes it's obvious The Stone Roses have no intention of letting anyone get that close so it's either a film celebrating the music or nothing at all. I'll take the former.

I thought the footage of them performing 'Waterfall' and 'Where Angels Play' in the studio was simply fantastic

We all know Brown's singing can be a bit off at times, even back in the day, but these were just flawless. Reni's backing vocals were incredible too
