Looking at the Rabo table, we've only 1 BP. A very unusual stat.

    We have six?

I better quickly delete that post then :)

That's more like it, table I was looking at was in the I Times.

Isn't it usually around 10 days before the game they announce the refs in order to make sure there's no injuries and they are available?

There isn't anyone attached to it yet anyway http://www.ercrugby.com/eng/matchcentre/heineken_cup.php?section=overview&fixid=174198

At least it can't be a French ref! Though after Saturday night I'm also adding Nigel Owens to my "please no" list!

    It'll be Wayne Barnes

Barnes isn't bad. I'd settle for him.

I wouldn't complain too much about Barnes, at least he keeps talking to the players & explains what he's doing & why he's doing it.

Really thought Owens was bad myself on Saturday night. He missed downey taking out bod. He seemed to ref munster and leinster differently at the breakdown. Leinster seemed to be off their feed, in from the side and generally slow on their own ball. Missed leinster closing the line out a couple of times. And at scrum time i think he was very good to us, especially with killers binding. Haven't watched the match back but that's the way it seemed to me there. Barnes won't let the game flow as much which might not be a bad thing!

    Missed attempted eye gouging too!

Did you pick that up off twitter? Because I don't think that's correct, or fair really.

What? The explanation for this should be interesting.

A medic friend was chatting to the players after the game - she's not one for making things up.

Well I'm sure you can both expand on and provide proof of your accusations so.

    Folks,

Conversations with friends/people who know/etc. etc. can't be used to backup speculation, please share a link to a reputable news source backing up your claims.

Oh well that settles that then!

Can you back that up in any way or give a timeframe/players involved?

    Mod Snip

What is an attempted eye gouge? If you don't put your fingers in the eye then your not gouging your just feeling someones face.
Who are the players involved ?
I was at the game and have watched the recording didn't spot anything

Let's be very clear, there isn't a Mod Snip incident, that was Curate's Egg stirring things on twitter.

That's why I'm asking for clarification, as that's the only gouging incident I've even heard of, even if it's a very tenuous accusation.

If Athtrasna can give us more info rather than just 'he said she said' it might become clearer.

I don't think there was any element of gouging whatsoever. Ok, there's rivalry and intensity, but all the players are above that imo. Might have been something accidental but that would be all.

Folks, lets not drag this down a rabbit hole, and as there's no proof or media article lets not name the players, eye gouging is a very serious offence and it's not fair on players to drag their names through the mud.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,420 ✭✭✭✭athtrasna

Apologies, wasn't trying to cause trouble and deliberately didn't name the player. Owens missed plenty of rule breaking on both sides, Healy's knock on for the Kearney non try, and loads of other stuff. I used to rate him as a referee but in the last 12 months he's had a few howlers.

I do think Owens is a bit on the slide, which is worrying given the paucity of top class refs out there.

It certainly is and i can see why you've edited names, though I would question then why allow the original poster to make such an accusation without any semblance of proof or backup, and not explain it in any way other than 'well my friend said it'?

Why mention it at all if you 'weren't trying to cause trouble'?! I mean what was the expectation?

It was mentioned in the context of why I'm hoping Nigel doesn't get the semi. He's not as on the ball as he used to be.

I'm unsure who would be better mind. Barnes?

It seems to have gotten to the point where every ref available is crap at some aspect of refereeing the game. Are we being too critical of them,or is there an issue with how the IRB train their referees?

Also missed Varley off his feet for the first Munster try, Healy knock on, Kearney try from the knock on, Kearney taken out in the air and the POC kick!

Non French or Irish Refs/Assistants used in the Heineken Cup this season include:

Waynes Barnes (Eng), Greg Garner (Eng), JP Doyle (Eng), Neil Paterson (Sco), Leighton Hodges (Wal) and Nigel Owens (Wal).

Not exactly an inspirational list, think I've missed a few too but it's going to be interesting when the officials are announced bearing in mind there can be no French refs that weekend.
