I am dying for this game.

Yes, there's a good chance you lads are going to be mauled into the ground but there's also a chance that you come good and swipe a win from ASM.

Look at the defence on Saturday from the red.

27 Phases and it took BOD to get through.

With the likes of Zebo out wide and hopefully Keatley and O'Gara paired up 10/11 We could see some nice fast play with points earned off the boot.

    Best of luck :)

Clermont will go after ROG in a big way if he starts. Similar to the way Cudmore took Boss out in last years game, I fully expect them to shake his bones hard and repeatedly. In all honesty I fully expect Clermont to be especially 'hard' against them as they will have seen the way Munster played against us and wont stand for half the messing that the Leinster team did. Munster are a dirty/niggly team but getting into an arm wrestle with Clermont wouldn't be a great idea.

I'd love to see Munster win but think Clermont will win by 14+

Can't see us winning tbqh.....Clermont are very very very good. If we have everyone possible available, then we do have a very slight chance. It will require heroic defence, an extremely solid set-piece and absolutely no mistakes, taking points at every available opportunity.

Even then, the odds are stacked against us. Clermont have so much depth, so many good players...pace, power, skill, a strong set-piece. Out-half would seem to be their only discernible weakness, we have to get at whoever starts there and hope he has an off-game.

But I'm dreading seeing the likes of Rougerie, Fofana, etc. running at ROG's channel.

I was going to say "still, stranger things have happened..." but no, they haven't. If we win away in France against this Clermont side, with this particular team...it will be the greatest result in Munster's history, bar none. I really really hope we can do it. POC leading a furious pack, Murray sweeping the ball wide for some Zebo magic...you never know.

(I am a Sunderland fan, after last weekend, I believe in miracles)

Good post, we need to starve them of possession for long periods.

Is ROG even sure to be playing? No chance of Keatley at 10?

I'd be quite worried about Clermont's bench actually. Sheer aggression can get you quite far but its quite taxing. I don't think Quins had anywhere near the same kind of bench to take advantage of a tiring Munster.

Their bench is almost as scary as their starting 15 in most cases.

I'd say Munster tactics will be attempt to suppress them once they get a few points on the board.

Understandably cagey squad update from Munster. Earls and Howlett continue to recover but neither will feature against Dragons. DOC is the only serious casualty from the weekend and requires further assessment.

In closing, people might be fit for Clermont.

    Or they might not.

You could hardly put Earls or Howlett straight into the team for Clermont at this point so? They've been out too long. Though I guess they would potentially strengthen the bench but that's bad news.

So is it Keatley or ROG at 10? I would have assumed ROG will start with him being rested last week. I haven't seen enough of Keatley to give a proper opinion but he seemed fairly decent against Leintser

It's irrelevant, ROG will start. He was actually alright against quins. Alright won't be good enough against Clermont though.

Not in the first half, better in the 2nd half but I would start Keatley

If the reports that POC is not to be cited turn out to be accurate, Munster will have been handed a massive and grossly unfair boost. I think I'm going to find myself cheering for Clermont.

Did you cheer for Northampton in 2011? SOB being involved in the final was surely a massive and grossly unfair boost by your standards.

The one "plus" for Keatley (well, 2 if you count ability to tackle, or 3 if you include attacking ball in hand), is if they select Keatley, Clermont could take almost all their analysis footage of Munster this season and dump it. The Leinster game is the first good chance to see Keatley's game.

I thought Quins would play a smarter game in the QF; we've often struggled ball in hand with slow phase play and little penetration so I expected them to kick deep into our half, let us have the ball and run out of ideas. As it happened, our lineout got the upper hand giving us an easy way out of half - they panicked a bit there.

The question for me is: will Clermont try to bash their way through us (which I'd love to see, as it's our best hope of stopping them), or kick deep, and force us to play out of our half. I'd be very worried if that happens.

It was absolutely. Politics were the only reason he was involved. The ERC didn't want its showpiece going ahead without its blue ribbon winner.

Right, back to the game so.

People have been queuing overnight in Clermont to get tickets:

You'd suspect that these are not the sort of guys to be selling them on to Munster fans... A great occasion in prospect.

Not one Munster jersey in that queue. #Disappointed.

If Clermont can get turnover ball and Munster persist with having forwards lurking on the wings then it'll be curtains.

The best Munster can hope for is a bit a rain, a blind ref at the breakdown (see Nige on Sat night) and a large slice of luck. Even with all that it might not be enough but feck it, i'll be a "Lunster" supporter for the night and hoping for the win.

    Interesting point.

Citing commissioner that day was independent, not an IRFU employee, afaik.

Penney's master plan unveiled... ROG was playing more flat v Quins but in the first half his passing wasn't accurate enough and he was doing more harm than good by being that flat. As I say he improved but Keatley is surely the better option at this stage, if for nothing else but the element of surprise..

To be fair, you're right. He was good. Everyone across the board (except POC) will have to raise their game from that performance though.

I wasn't really trying to have a cut at him anyway (though I realise it may come across that way), I just think that Penney has nailed his colours to the mast on the 10 thing and ROG will start no matter what Keatley does (good or bad). And in the most important game of the season so far it actually worked quite well. I wouldn't rely on Clermont have as big a problem in the lineout though, which is where Munster made a lot of hay against Quins.
