Why don't you educate us all as to what a 'real rebublican' is?

I could do with a laugh.

Yep, I'm a bad person for pointing out that using one aspect of a religion, nationality or states activities or past to justify a blanket xenophobia is "thick", racist, sectarian etc.

As a rough percentage, what proportion of the "Republican movement" in Ireland would actually agree in practice with that.

There are xenophobic dregs in your movement that use it as an excuse for hatred, I'm sure you'll agree.

The question is, without that xenophobia, how popular would Irish republicanism actually be?

I dont agree with American foreign policy, wars etc, does that mean I should shun all types of American culture? Should I stop watching shows like South Park, Mentalist etc? Should I burn my Bruce Springsteen cds/records/books etc? Should I stop watching NFL?

Anyone I'd associate with. I'ds imagine the overwhelming majority.
There are xenophobic dregs in your movement that use it as an excuse for hatred, I'm sure you'll agree.?

Theres xenophobic dregs who claim to be Republicans and probably a tiny minority who understand and can spell the word, yes. Theres also some corrupt Gardai, dodgy judges and people who can't drive on the roads out there, even as we speak.
The question is, without that xenophobia, how popular would Irish republicanism actually be?

...and again, back to that nonsense.

Its not a laugh you could do with. Its a lesson on how to spell first of all. If you think you are going to drag me into a slagging match over this you are wrong. I gave a view about her and what she did. There are people who have republican views but are not members of illegal organisations like she is. Read up on your history and you might learn something, in other words educate yourself.

I can ban you from posting if you don't stop being so agressive and confrontational, not to mention that you seem intent on insulting people.

If you have any further questions then i suggest you pm me.

This is why I ask if you considered someone burning a tricolour and referring To it in offensive terms as anti Irish, because the public face of the republican movement is one that is anti British and uses this to attract support.

You're framing it in your terms and perceptions. It's anti-British Imperialism etc.

That does come across a bit like "how can I be racist, my best mate is black" to be honest.

Whether or not it's an anti-Irish sentiment depends on why they're burning the tricolour, what does it represent to them in that context?

Extremist Muslims burn the American flag because to them it represents the infidels, the imperialism of America and the imperialism of the west in general but they actively recruit and happily accept American and European Muslims among their ranks.

It's framed as a hatred of Americans but it's actually a hatred of what they see America, and infidelic Americans, represents (which is non-Islamic "westernism"). They couldn't really care what nationality you are as long as you conform to their ideology.

Likewise a loyalist could burn a tricolour as a protest against strong-arm republicanism while having no hatred of the general Irish population.

It's all about perceptions right? I'm telling you how I, and a lot of other English people, perceive the republican movement

...then I suggest you educate yourself as to what it is. I've little hope that even an event like Gerry Adams proposing to one of the royals would make any difference to you however.

You know Martin McGuinness is a cricket fan? True story.

I had heard that actually. I look forward to seeing him in Malahide this summer, we could share a jug of Pimms together.

If a political party wants people's votes they should try and correct people's perception of them, but being a cynic, I would say that it could lose them votes from the "true" patriots.

So there was not decades of anti republican propaganda and censorship? With both of those how were republicans supposed to get across their message and for people to get an accurate impression of them?
